UCC seeks entries for 'My Faith, My World, My Voice' video contest
 | UCC "My Faith, My World, My Voice" video contest |
How does your faith transform, connect or touch the world? The United Church of Christ is challenging young adults to answer this question visually for the chance to be a prophetic voice for the denomination. The "My Faith, My World, My Voice" video contest, introduced at General Synod 2013 in Long Beach, Calif., challenges young adults to be visionaries for the future by creating a video representation of what faith means to them and how it impacts their world.
The contest is open to individuals ages 18-35 and the deadline for submissions is Oct. 31, 2013. All entries must be original content and cannot be longer than 60 seconds. Videos can contain stills/photos, graphics, music, text, animation and/or video, and must be family-friendly and appropriate for viewing on ucc.org. The "My Faith, My World, My Voice" contest committee will select the videos of up to five finalists to be posted on YouTube, and the UCC community will have seven days to vote for their favorite video from Dec. 1 to Dec. 7, 2013. The creator of the video that earns the most votes will win $5,000 and national recognition on ucc.org.
The contest seeks creative, high-quality videos that send a dynamic message. Videos must answer the question, "How does your faith transform, connect or touch the world?" in an honest, inspiring way. Submissions should be high quality and skillfully edited, clearly recorded and easy to hear. For more details and contest requirements, and to view a sample video, visit the video contest website.

THE FRIENDSHIP TREE
OpenTable UCC recently moved to a new location and are renting space from Disciples Christian Church in Owasso, OK. To celebrate their new shared ministry, and as part of their "Mission 4/1 Earth" commitment, the two congregations worshiped together on Sunday, April 21. Rev Dr Bill McCutchen, the pastor of the Disciples congregation, is a Native American and former DOC liaison to the UCC's Council on American Indian Ministries. Bill developed a worship service that was full of indigenous practices that celebrated the earth as part of this Earth Day service.
After worship, both communities gathered outside to plant a Sacred Tree (to honor the sacredness of all life, as evidenced by the tree) in an indigenous ritual involving a tobacco blessing of the soil. Then, the companions of OpenTable planted a second tree to symbolize their gratefulness for the welcome they had received.
The Friendship Tree, as it is known, is meant to symbolize OpenTable taking root in the soil that has been worked by the Disciples congregation. After the tree was planted, the companions of OpenTable and the members of Disciples Christian Church laid hands on the tree while OpenTable's new pastor, Rev Bob Lawrence, led both communities in a prayer of blessing.

| Dates for Churches to be Featured in the KO e-NEWS |
| |
In the three months that I have been with you, I have heard that we need to find ways to increase communication and our sense of being in ministry together. I can extend the invitation, but it will require all of us to actually increase our sharing and communication. This is one simple step we can take in that direction. So,please take a few minutes to find the date assigned to you and mark your calendars to remind you to participate at the assigned time.
Share the good news and ministry of your church with sister congregations! Churches have been assigned a date; so send in a paragraph or two about your congregation's ministry. You may feature a special event, a particular mission, anything that your church is doing well and you want to share. Your stories will encourage and inspire others; so share the good news!
The first date below is the date your church has been assigned and will be featured; the 2nd date the information needs to be submitted; send it early if you like! Send your information to kofocus@yahoo.com
