Hardware Store Transforms into General Store

The Dreaming Together Hardware Store (Soņando Juntos Ferreteria) was dreamed into being by the 30 women WALLwho founded "Mujeres   Unidas,"        JustHope's first women's microcredit project. It opened in January 2011 with a 'social-business' start-up loan from JustHope.  As a 'social business,' both the repayment of the loan, and any profits the project earns, go directly into the microcredit 'bank' to make more loans possible for more women!

Dreaming Together ended both its first and second years "in the black"! Sales during the dry season when groups come to help build homes were strong both years, but the rainy winter season was difficult as the Ferreteria had to depend solely on local sales.

So...  hoping toward stronger sales and greater self-sustainability,

the Ferreteria added "and Tienda"store to its name in January 2013, and expanded the line of products it carries. It now sells basic grains like beans, rice, corn, and sugar; and special food and supplies for the many women who are raising pigs. Soon they will be adding school supplies to their inventory; along with fertilizers for the spring planting.  Ideas for future expansion include used clothing, and a small "cafetin" where people can get a simple meal when they are away from home. Selling these new products will not only increase the viability of the Ferreteria/Tienda, and add new dollars to the micro-credit bank --  it will save the people of Chacraseca the cost and time of going to Leon for the items they need.

Dreaming Together...  it's something the people of Chacraseca do well!  And the growing Soņando Juntos Ferreteria and Tienda is helping those dreams come true!

There are several ways, you can partner with the women of Soņando Juntos to help grow the future! You can make donations of tools for the Ferreteria or school supplies and kitchen items to the Tienda! Or you can donate the funds to help Soņando Juntos add new products to its inventory! Visit our website or email us for more information!

Sacred Conversations

At the 2012 annual meeting someone asked a question about race and how the KO Conference might begin to look at the changing demographics and address these questions. Here's a resource to start the conversation.

Local Church Support Staff

This is for YOU!

Sometimes, a church office is a MINE FIELD where a small step in the wrong direction can cause a HUGE explosion! Rev. David Moffett-Moore, author of Wind and Whirlwind, will teach support staff how stay light under the massive weight of church office stress and find the pathways back to peace on Saturday, April 6th.

Learn more about this and other exciting workshops at the Annual Conference designed especially for Church Office Support Staff!

The Illinois Conference invites you to the 2013 Annual Conference of the United Church of Christ Office Support Staff Network, a national organization dedicated to hardworking people supporting the ministries all across the United Church of Christ.

This event will be held
April 4-6, 2013
at the Wyndham Hotel in Lisle, Illinois.

This year's theme is "The Sky's the Limit." The Planning Committee has been dedicated to planning a meaningful event that offers our peers much needed care and nurturing on many facets, with the sky as our limitless boundary of opportunity.

Additionally, we have planned time for networking, fellowship and fun, which can be the most important part of the event for some. Many church secretaries work alone in their church offices, and the relationships built during these conferences provide connections to a wealth of additional experience and knowledge from people that are in the very same settings.
