Regional Mountain Trails
Define the regional trail network in Western Boulder County
BMA has been working with our elected officials and land agency managers for three years to figure out how to build trails that connect all of western Boulder County's recreation destinations. Last September, all agencies gathered to get their collective arms around this task of looking beyond fencelines and connecting their parks and communities. We're excited to report they they were successful in their efforts and have agreed to engage in a process to include our community (that includes you!) to help redefine what recreation looks like in western Boulder County.
The RMTMP website is here.
Planners enter into this process with no preconceived ideas about what this network will look like, so they want to hear from the public first. The process begins with "listening" meetings in almost every community in Boulder County:
BMA Advocacy peeps have been dreaming about what this system would look like for years, but we know that if our community speak with one voice, our impact and needs become more powerful. Your voice is incredibly valuable -- if no one speaks up for mountain bike access, mountain biking needs will be overlooked.
First, please consider attending one of the meetings above to advocate for mountain bike access and express your wishes. In a nutshell, we all want connectivity between trail systems and new trails that take all recreation needs into consideration (including mountain biking). Any insight you have on potential trail corridors, types of trail between parks, best spots for a trail, or other ideas are great additional input.
Second, BMA would love to hear from mountain bikers from all of these communities to compare our hopes, fears and desires for this future trail network. We would like to support your requirements and we would like you to support our requirements as well.
Let's work together to get the most desirable result!

Walker Ranch Management Plan
Meeting scheduled for April 16
Staff has taken the community's input and a drafted plan that will define management at Walker Ranch for the next 20+ years and will be presented to the public at this meeting. This will be the last outreach meeting on the plan. After this meeting, it will be presented to the Parks and Open Space Advisory Committee and Boulder County Commissioners for approval. The public will have opportunity to comment on the plan at these meetings.
The details as we know them:
- Walker Ranch Management Plan Public Meeting Tuesday, April 16, 6pm
- Houston Room at the Clerk and Recorder's Office in Boulder (1750 33rd Street)
Eldo to Walker Update
Walker Ranch Management Plan progress was held up in January; the Boulder County Commissioners had instructed BCPOS staff not to move forward with the plan until the Eldo to Walker connection issue had been resolved.Does the scheduled meeting above mean they have resolved the issue? Well, no... but it's still good news. After several meetings with the staffs of Eldorado Canyon State Park, City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks, and Boulder County Parks and Open Space, it was concluded that a trail design contractor should be hired to take all the information held by each organization, "ground truth" the information and create a report that examines each option, documents their pros and cons, estimates the costs associated with each and present to decision makers.BMA applauds this effort to get an objective assessment of this long desired trail corridor. We feel that while it may take a few months longer to complete, this approach is likely to give us an unfiltered and dispassionate result. If you attend the Walker Ranch Meeting on 4/16, support the Eldo to Walker connection.

501(c)3 Announcement at Soiree
What can we say? We had a blast! Thanks a ton for showing up! The big news of the night, besides great food, drinks, and conversation, was the announcement that BMA is now able to accept tax deductable donations - in fact we raised over $5,000 (with the help of a matching donation) that will go straight to BMA so we can work on the amazing projects in front of us in 2013. |
