Chapman Opens- Access Update

Chapman Drive, a 2.6-mile dirt road that links Boulder Canyon Dr. (at the Red Lion Restaurant) to Flagstaff Drive (at the Sunrise Amphitheater) is now open to mountain bikes. For the moment, mountain bikers only have uphill access. Many thanks to the City of Boulder for this access that came from the West TSA process.

Although right now Chapman Drive is only open to bikes in the uphill direction, this might change. The City of Boulder is in the middle of a public engagement process to consider other ways to manage Chapman Drive, including potentially allowing downhill bike access. Multi-directional access would provide a key connection between Walker Ranch and Betasso.

BMA has already met with City staff and expressed the desire for multi-directional access on Chapman Drive. The City is also holding an open house to discuss the range of management options for the road. Your voice and presence at the meeting would bolster the chances or downhill access, so if you'd like Chapman to ride both ways, or want to voice your opinion on the various management options, mark your calendar for February 13 now, and stay tuned for more details.

In the meantime, take a ride over there and let us know what you think. For a short from town jaunt, ride up the Boulder Canyon bike path, up Chapman Drive and down Flagstaff Drive. Or, ride Betasso and connect to Walker Ranch via Chapman Drive for a big ride!

Check out trail information and conditions on BMA's Chapman Drive page.

Colorado H.S. Cycling League

Started in 2010, the Colorado High School Cycling League has grown from 183 riders on 18 teams to 461 riders on 39 teams from all parts of the state. The MTB race series format provides an opportunity for kids to just train and be social with their buddies or be plenty competitive if they're so inclined. Coaches, parents and lots of volunteers make it possible for kids to get out and make lifelong friends and memories riding the beautiful trails in our region. Want to get involved or learn more? Head over here for more info.

BME OB Launch

West Mag Reopens, for Now.

The USFS ended the closure at West Mag.  We are told that there will not be any more blanket closures, but there will be small, isolated closures in the spring to allow contractors to finish their work.

We suggest that you not ride there until contractors have completed "restoration" of the trails... there's slash everywhere and where there is still trees, snow drifts.  Click here to read Mike Barrow's report and see pictures of the current status of the area.
