Brothers and Sisters...
In his "sermon on the mount" Jesus taught..."Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the children of God (Matthew 5:9)." These words come as both challenge and opportunity to people of faith who seek to engage in efforts that unite and not divide the global community. For Lutheran Christians, they are words to live by! So it was a privilege and responsibility this past Sunday, September 20th to observe the International Day of Peace (established by the United Nations in 1981) with sisters and brothers at Lord of Life and beyond.
In our congregation, during the adult forum, we spent time with Sue Dietz who is an active member of the Religious Society of Friends. She is engaged with the Quaker community at Medford Meeting and actively committed to confronting issues of homelessness and racism. Her conversation with us highlighted the values of Quakerism and she used the acrostic SPICES to make her point. She said Quakers are committed to simplicity - peace - integrity - community - equality - stewardship. Sue focused particularly on the peace witness of her Friends-flavored faith. In addition, she extended an invitation to our congregation to be partners in their third Summer Peace Camp to be held in 2016 at the Meeting House in Medford. If you are interested in helping us partner with our Quaker sisters and brothers, please let Pastor Sue or me know!
Following our second Sunday morning worship service, many of us traveled over to the Protestant Community Church (Cathedral in the Woods) in Medford Lakes to join 9 other Christian communities and several members of the Muslim American Community Association to "seek and find" peace. As we marched in solidarity for understanding and reconciliation, signs expressing peaceful sentiments were displayed with provocative and encouraging words.
"GOD is LOVE!"..."Pray and Act for Peace!"..."Love One Another!"..."We need Peace like a River!"...
"Peace in our Time and All the Time!"..."Love GOD - Love Neighbor! - Now Repeat!"...
"There are no Others - Just Sisters and Brothers!"
Following the Peace March, there was time set aside for worship with opportunities to hear scripture, sing songs of praise, pray for peace, experience the "laying on of hands" and "anointing with oil" and spend quiet time in meditation. Numerous workshops provided experiences that drew us closer to God and each other. Children, youth and adults took time to have their animals blessed, write peace poems, create works of art, discover the value of yoga and tai-chi or learn how to crochet plastic bags into sleep mats for homeless neighbors who have to sleep outdoors in the woods of Burlington County.
This marvelous community event concluded with members of our Praise Team leading us in singing several peace songs in front of the entrance to the PCC and not far from the 9/11 Memorial beam located in a small park by Stokes Road. The words of Saint Francis of Assisi continue to echo in my ears..."Lord make me an instrument of your peace..." I trust that this call to peace will not go unheeded by people of faith. Let us find creative, humble and welcoming ways of being the peacemakers that our Lord calls us to be...day by day!
Your Brother in Christ, Pastor Jones

If you missed the picnic on September 13th you missed a great time with lots of great food, swimming, kayaking, and paddle boating with over 100 people in attendance. Even the rain didn't chase us away. Thanks goes out to Barbara Wagner for securing the camp, to Barbara and Sheri Perkins for purchasing the necessary burgers, hot dogs, etc., to Jamie and Dan Millere together with Brian Miller for lugging the tables and coolers over to the camp (and back) and setting everything up, to everyone who brought wonderful salads and desserts to share and especially to Mike Masley for doing ALL the cooking. Couldn't have done it without him. If you missed it this year we hope to see you there next year!

If you have a love of children and desire to serve this is the opportunity for you! With our new Sunday morning schedule we are in need of dedicated folks to help with the Nursery. There are two opportunities. The first is during the Faith Formation time beginning at 9:30 and ending at 10:15. The second is for the period of time during the sermon at the 10:30 service which lasts approximately 15 minutes. This opportunity is also open to Senior High age youth.
All volunteers will need to have taken Child Protection Training. A class will be arranged for any volunteers who have not yet had the chance to participate in the training.
If you can help, please contact Bettyjane Watkins at b.j.watkins@comcast.net or Lu Hourihan at luciah13@verizon.net. Thank you for your support!

LifeLines Editor(s) needed!
|
Still need an editor for the Lifelines for 2016. There is still time to get acquainted with the process this year. The newsletter is edited online with only a web browser - very easy to do. If you can type and use a mouse, and have internet - you are all set! Or if 2 or more people are interested it could be a co-editor position which makes it even easier! About 4-5 hours are needed every 2 weeks (with current schedule of 26 issues / year). If you'd like to explore what is involved please email lifelines@lordlife.us and we will give you a demo, or you can ask Bill or Sue Dreisbach for more information. Thanks for considering this ministry opportunity! (Only 6 issues remaining in 2015!)
