Brothers and Sisters...
In the apostle Paul's letter to first century Christians in Ephesus, he encourages believers to grow in faith, to mature as disciples, to cultivate the "following life" ! This once Jewish now Christian man of God encourages the church to trust in the Lord for the strength needed to face the challenges of their own time. His words speak to us and our time too!
"I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, God may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through the Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth, and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God." (Ephesians 3: 16-19 NRSV)
Over time, it is has become more clear to me that Christian maturity requires commitment and discipline. Anything less than this destines a believer to remain in a shallow place in spite of the fact that Christ calls us to "put out into the deep". And sisters and brothers, there is no better time than the present to recommit ourselves to a faithful life with depth and divine meaning!
With this understanding in mind, the congregational council recently decided to change our Sunday morning schedule in response to a recent survey of the congregation's preferences (check out the results posted on the narthex bulletin board). The staff and council believe a shift to this new schedule will allow us to more fully respond to the spiritual needs of children, youth and adults in our congregation and also help us to reach out more effectively to unchurched neighbors in our community. The schedule is as follows...
STARTING 2nd Weekend in Sep - 9/13:
Worship (8:15 - 9:15 AM)
Faith Formation & Fellowship (9:30 - 10:15 AM)
Worship (10:30 - 11:30 AM)
I believe God is calling us to "retool" for faithful ministry at a time when church attendance is just one of many options that people have to choose from in their busy lives. The congregational council and staff trust that this shift can more creatively and effectively address the needs of Lord of Life in a culture that finds people claiming to be "spiritual but not religious". Who is to say that we can't be both! Our new Sunday morning schedule will be just one facet of a faithful strategy to invite more members of our parish to commit to a lifelong journey of gracious living providing the tools necessary to engage a world desperately in need of the love of God found in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Please pray throughout the Summer (and often!) for our congregation as we seek to provide the very best ministry we can for church and community. The changes that are coming will create new challenges and opportunities for us all. But above all, let's be sure to give God the glory in the process...as we mature together in faith, hope, and love!
- Pastor David Jones

Change for Change
We are currently collecting change for the Children's Fresh Air Home in Wildwood. We will be collecting through August. The change we donate will be used to purchase linens and bedding for the facility which has been under construction for a while now. They are down to the final stretch.
About the Children's Fresh Air Home:The Children's Fresh Air Home (CFAH) is a non-profit organization that provides a no-cost, enriching summer experience at the Jersey Shore in a safe, positive environment for children who may be living with family or community adversities. CFAH accomplishes this goal through positive and nurturing programming that fosters enhanced social skills, leadership abilities, and critical peer and mentorship interactions. The home, located in North Wildwood, has offered a summer respite to more than 20,000 children from the Philadelphia and New Jersey regions for more than 115 years.
Back Packs for Kids

Meet the Council - Lynn Shugars

My family has been members of Lord of Life for about seven years. Prior to that we were members at Prince of Peace in Marlton. My husband and I have been married for 29 years this August and have three children. Kenny, 26, is a Staff Sergeant for the United States Air Force currently stationed at Nellis Air Base in Las Vegas. He is headed to Korea in August. Emily, 23, is a student at Stockton University and works for Kindercare. Eric, 19, is a student at Rowan University. For the past twenty years I have worked in public education administration as a school business administrator. We have lived in Shamong for the past 14 years. When I decided to make a change in churches, I wanted to quietly slip into the back of Lord of Life for a Sunday service to check it out. At the end of the service Pastor Dave sought me out and wanted to know who I was and where I was from. I was impressed that he knew right away that I was someone new, and that he took the time to introduce himself. We became members shortly thereafter. I am honored to now be part of the church council and feel that my work experiences give me relevant perspective in some of the issues that the church is facing. |

On these hot sunny days, at least know that the solar panels are still generating power with the best months up ahead! Since 'turn on' June 2013, we have generated over 121 million watts of electricity offsetting 65,603 pounds of CO2. And our latest electric bill was $0! Thanks to everyone who had a hand in making this operational!

On June 4th I [Pastor Sue] had the pleasure of participating in a very special celebration, the ordination of Ryan Paetzold, a member of Lord of Life. What a gift to be able to be part of the culmination of his journey to become a pastor.
His ordination was part of the opening worship for the 28th Annual Assembly of the NJ Synod - ELCA. What followed were two days of conversation and worship centered on and grounded in who we are as followers of Jesus Christ in the state of NJ. Some important work was done in the areas of Racism, Heroin Addiction, Solitary Confinement, and the ELCA Malaria Campaign as part of this Assembly. Pastor Jones and I will provide more information on this Assembly in the coming weeks.
For more information about the work of the Synod in Assembly, feel free to browse the Assembly web site at: http://www.njsynod.org/#!assembly/c1434
A sincere THANK YOU to Denise and Bob Sunbury for attending as our voting members from LOL and a shout out to Devon Moll who was part of our worship on Friday evening sharing her talents on flute. Please continue to keep our Bishop, Tracie Bartholomew, and our Synod Council, on which I continue to serve, in prayer as we listen for God's call in challenging times. - Pastor Sue
