May 22, 2015 Lord of Life Lutheran Church
|

Celebrate Pentecost! On Wednesday evening a number of us began our celebration of Pentecost with a special service at St. Matthew's in Moorestown. Many of our brothers and sisters from other churches in the greater Burlington and Camden area. We celebrated with word and song and most especially the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. Come and celebrate with your brothers and sister at all three services here at Lord of Life this weekend and share in that same power and presence! Oh, and wear something red! "Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." 2 Cor 3:17

"Point your kids in the right direction - when they're old they won't be lost." (Proverbs 22:6 - The Message)
|
Brothers and Sisters...
Ministry to, with and among children and youth has always been a high priority at Lord of Life. Our congregation truly believes that kids are not just the "future" of the church but that they are the church "right here and now!" As we learn, serve and celebrate together we model the faith for each other. In so many ways we catch what it means to be Christian from each other. That's why I'm so excited to share with you 5 marvelous ways that I personally was blessed by our kids and families just this past Spring!
+ On six Wednesday evenings Donna Yates and I were joined by Dennis Yates, Fran Bubeck. Christina Fennimore and Frank Humphries and sixteen different Senior High Youth for a meal, ice-breakers, devotions and discussions focused on the topics of "faith, family, fasting, fear, forgiveness and friends"
+ On a Saturday in May, Julie Oakley and I met with thirteen 3rd Year Confirmation students from 9 AM till 7 PM in preparation for their upcoming "Affirmation of Faith / Confirmation". Together we prepared the service of worship that they will lead for their Confirmation on Sunday, June 7 and they also prepared for that evening's worship. They spent time taking a "spiritual gifts inventory" and then selected several areas where they will use their gifts in future service at Lord of Life. And of course, we watched a movie together..."How to train your dragon".
+ Team 345 brought seven adults and 10 youth together as we were led by Donna Favilla to learn the basics of yoga and meditation. In addition we made a God's Eye craft, ate healthy snacks and visited the church's Meditation Walk by traveling through the dark and finding our way by flashlight.
+ Twelve of our kids prepared for their first Holy Communion over 3 weeks by spending 7 hours with parents, grandparents and siblings in shared meals, bible study, gaming, singing and age appropriate instruction. And then they all celebrated with family, friends and congregation "the meal that lasts a lifetime" on the first weekend of May.
+ This past Friday night twenty-five kids were dropped off at church to be watched by Julie and Ashley Vorwerk and other assorted adults who gave numerous parents the opportunity to have 3 hours of "alone time". Games, snacks, videos and stories gave kids of all ages a chance to relax together and provide a blessed respite for parents too!
Sisters and brothers, let us remember that pointing our kids in the right direction is Godly work...and the benefits will last a lifetime!
Your Bother in Christ, Pastor Jones

We need your help! Please help the Worship and Music Ministry Team make an important decision about our Worship. We have been exploring the possibility of changing our worship times beginning with the new program year in September 2015 for the purpose of:
- Creating time for Fellowship between the services,
- Allowing families to attend either of the two Sunday services and still participate in Sunday School and Confirmation Learning sessions,
- Creating an opportunity for Adult Study between the services.
The new [Sunday] schedule would be:
- 8:30 AM - Worship
- 9:45 AM - Fellowship and Study
- 10:30 AM - Worship
We know there is no way to meet everyone's expectations and desires as we consider this change. We are simply trying to make the best decision we can for the congregations as a whole. Your input is necessary to help us make this decision. For the next couple of weeks we will be gathering input from those who attend the worship services. If you would like to participate in helping us to make this important decision but will not be in worship, please contact Pastor Sue via email at pastor_sue@lordlife.us with the following information:
|
Which worship service to you most regularly attend?
Saturday 6PM ____ Sunday 8:30AM____ Sunday 10AM____
Do you support a change to the Sunday Worship Schedule as identified above?
Yes____ No____
Comment(s) - Please feel free to provide any additional input that would be helpful in making this decision.

Senior High Mission Trip Info - contact: Jill Glossner
Going to Richmond, Virginia is June 28 -> July 3.
The Senior High Youth Mission Trip Team would like to thank all of those that supported us by making or purchasing baked goods or stopping by on May 16th to get your car washed. We raised over $800 in one day. As always, the generosity of Lord of Life leads to good things which in this case will be sending thirty-four youth and adults to Richmond, Virginia to work with Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity and the Greater Richmond Food Bank.
If you missed us this weekend, there is still an opportunity to support us by purchasing "Miles to Richmond". Forms are in the Narthex on the bulletin board...they are pink! If you can't support us financially please support us with prayers for safe travels.

Meet the Council - Bill Leach
|
| Son Luke's rendition of Daddy entranced by Pastor's sermon. |
Often referred to as "Tina's husband", Bill is the proud father of four teenagers - three boys and one girl. This wonderful family keeps him motivated and exhausted, often at the same time.
For Bill, it was love at first sight when he met Tina at Rutgers... though it took some persuasion to get her to share the feeling.
Bill's "hobbies" are dictated by the activities his kids get involved in. From Scouting, to sports, to school plays, to the band and musical concerts - he's always eager to get involved and to watch them learn and grow.
Bill has worked for the US Navy for close to thirty years, currently heading up an R&D group supporting aircraft carrier technologies. He's also a part time financial advisor, helping family and friends to make the most of life.
A long-standing member of Lord of Life, Bill's in his second term on Council, and appreciates the opportunity to give back to the church for all the good it has provided the community over the years.
Some fun facts about Bill: he's worked for NASCAR (causing them to change their own Rule Book); he sang Happy Birthday to the Dalai Lama; he's white water rafted the full length of the Grand Canyon (twice); he rescued Tina from an active volcano; he "participated" in a Central American revolution; he saved the world by closing up the hole in the ozone layer; but... he did NOT kiss a shark's belly (only Tina had the guts to do that!).
