Thoughts in Print - by Pastor Sue

As I write this to all of you I am technically on vacation. I had every intention of getting this done early, as in before I left, but last week things just got away from me and the time never materialized. I can honestly say that it was because of being busy with some wonderful things at Lord of Life, not the least of which was the honor of working with 12 of our amazing young people and their families in this year's 1st Holy Communion class. Working with these kids and their families is always a highlight of my year. And for someone who spent 25 years as an engineer, I am always amazed that God has also allowed me the gifts to be able to work with children, and especially to teach.

But here's the thing. When I first came to Lord of Life almost 6 full years ago, working with children, especially younger children, petrified me. But after working with them for a while I realized that, even though I don't have the traditional training of a teacher, I have been a mentor and a teacher of sorts to lots of children in my life. All I needed to do was just remember to be myself, be willing to love them the way Jesus would, and let the power of the Holy Spirit do the rest. And it worked.

That being said, there are a whole lot of other people who make something like a 1st Holy Communion class happen. It takes both Pastor Dave and I to work with both the children and their parents and grandparents. It takes Sue Dreisbach and the tremendous gifts she has to help work out the details of the music and to teach the children the songs and the hand motions and to make it fun. It takes the families to be willing to take the time and make it a priority to bring their children to participate. It takes Lu Hourihan and a host of disciples to make the meals and the room setup happen. It takes Chuck Bubeck and his gifts for working with children and helping them to better understand what the bread of Holy Communion is all about by actually baking bread with them. AND IT TAKES ALL OF YOU, the people of Lord of Life, and your time, talent, and treasure to provide a place and a staff and the environment where it can all happen. WITHOUT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU AND YOUR DISCIPLESHIP ministry would not happen.

So thank you for your contributions in big and small ways that help to make ministry happen at Lord of Life. Thank you for your contributions that make things like 1st Holy Communion happen, things that change lives and help people both young and old to grow in faith and in relationship to one another. Please know that what you do matters! And I am grateful for all of you!

As Paul said in the beginning of his letter to the Philippians (Phi 1:3-6 NRS):

"I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now.  I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ."

Know that while I am away I am praying for you, for our ministry together as disciples of Christ! And I look forward to returning refreshed and renewed for the work we have been called to do together!

Peace from a lake way up north in New York State,

Pastor Sue

Vacation Bible School Coming!

G-Force VBS is coming your way!  God's Love in Action!  This year we'll Move! Act! Care! Follow! and Share! with Jesus in this action packed Vacation Bible School. Morning session for PreK-K and evening session for grades 1-5, youth and adults. Mark your calendars for the week of July 27th and look for registration information at church in the coming weeks. See you there!

Child Protection Training

There will be a training session on Saturday, May 16th at 10 AM at the church for anyone who is going on the Mission trips, helping with VBS this summer or anyone at LOL who is working with our children.  Everyone who is working with our children and youth MUST take this course, even if you have been cleared by the state, school district, scouts etc.  It is important that we all do this to protect our children and youth, ourselves, and also the whole church.  This is a requirement from our insurance company also.

Thank You!

A GREAT BIG THANK YOU! To the families who were part of our 1st Holy Communion class this year. Congratulations to:

Catherine Andrews Logan Barnes, Juliana Bellina, Samantha Gibboni, Jackson Groeller, Madison Groeller, Aiklie Gray, Emma Harris, Tyler Heinrich, Vivian Hollenbeck, Grayson Pickard, and Graceanna Rogers

...and all the people in their lives who have faithfully lived their baptismal promises to help these wonderful young people know and follow Jesus.

And thank you to all the other folks who helped make the Bible Blast and the Learning Sessions happen: Lu Hourihan, Elizabeth Gibboni, Nancy DiYenno, Caroline Cuviello, Chuck Bubeck, and Sue Dreisbach!

Stewardship Update - 1/3 year

Brothers and Sisters...

The first four months of 2015 have been an exciting time to be a member of Lord of Life.  If you check our website (www.lordlife.us), you will see in our photo gallery or can read in our Lifelines archives about the dynamic and faithful ministry unfolding within our congregation.

In just the last 3 weeks...we have traveled to Lutheran Crossings in Moorestown and hosted two devotional gatherings with over 50 residents in attendance...the Men's Fellowship Breakfast broke its attendance record with 16 brothers in Christ seated in the back room of the newly renovated Red Lion Diner having a spirited discussion about baptism...two Sundays ago 17 children and adults spent two hours in fellowship and serving as we did road clean-up along Prickett's Mill Road..last Saturday over 40 women and girls sipped tea, munched on finger sandwiches and cupcakes and were entertained by the Jersey Sound Chorus of the Sweet Adelines...and on Saturday evening and Sunday morning 12 of our kids received their first Holy Communion following 7 hours of preparation with their parents, grand parents and siblings.

None of this could have happened without your faithful generosity in response to all that God has given you!  We thank you for your continued support of our ministry with your marvelous gifts of time, talent and treasure.

Children & Youth Ministries

May has arrived and it is a very busy month for the youth of Lord of Life! Last weekend 12 excited and beautiful children were welcomed to the table of our Lord for First Holy Communion.

This Saturday is the 8th grade Confirmation Lock-In from 9 am - 7 pm; Sunday, May 17 will be a Confirmation (grades 6-8) work day at Lord of Life to clean up around the volleyball area followed by Pizza, Song and Sacrament which is open to all families (sign-up on bulletin board). Our 13 8th grade Confirmands will be presented to the Church Council on Monday, May 11 at 7 pm.

Friday, May 15 is a special evening for adults and children -- "May Date" -- adults will leave their children in good hands (6-9 pm, sign-up on bulletin board) for games, snacks and fun; and head out for some fun time of their own.

Saturday, May 16 is the Car Wash/Bake Sale for the Senior High Mission Trip. It's time to get the pollen off of your car...

To end the month with a really fun event, Team 345 will be departing Lord of Life following the 10 am Worship Service on May 31 for Diggerland adventures.

We pray for God's continued blessings on our youth and gratefully thank their parents, their Sunday School teachers/Confirmation coaches, and all who are helping them move forward on their faith journey.

Meet your council members!

About Doug Hess:   I have been a member of Lord of Life for the past 10 years. Prior to that, I was a member of Prince of Peace in Marlton for 9 years. Little known fact: I was baptized at Prince of Peace at the age of 31!

Doug Hess

My family and I moved to Tabernacle in December of 2000 and reside at 21 Washington Way. I have been married to Karin Krueger for 23 years (Anniversary May 2nd). We have three children - Ksenia (22), who we adopted from Russia in 2007, she recently moved back from Russia with her daughter - Eve (2). Madison (19) is finishing her Freshman year at Shenandoah University, and Spencer (16) is a Junior at Seneca High School.

We primarily attend the 10 am service on Sunday (a hold-over from the kids' Sunday School days). One of the reasons that I love Lord of Life is the servant culture that exists here. I went on my first mission trip in January of 2006 to Ocean Springs MS for Katrina relief and I was hooked! Since then I have been on 8 other mission trips both adults and Senior High youth (I am planning on going to Richmond this year). These trips have strengthened my faith and humbled me. These opportunities to serve those in need remind me of one of the bible verses that I keep on my phone - "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve..." Mark 10.45.

I look forward to working with the pastors and council to help guide and strengthen this community of faith.
