Thoughts in Print - from Pastor Sue...

By now many of you have probably figured out that I have been out of the office and out of the state since last Saturday. But I promise you I have been working, rather than playing... Well, that's not really true. Actually I've been at a conference in Minneapolis that has been both work and play all rolled into one. The conference is known as the Festival of Homiletics and pastors and church leaders from all denominations and from all over the US and Canada, over 1800 strong, have gathered to spend some time learning and worshipping together with one goal in mind; to be better at what we do as preachers and worship leaders for the sake of the Gospel.

And I have to admit I've been both inspired and affirmed as I've listened to presenters, preachers every one, share of themselves and their hopes and dreams for the church in challenging times. And one theme has resounded from all of them; that God is alive and well and in our midst even as we are challenged by what appears to be a decline in "the church", especially in North America. And that the question we need to be asking ourselves is not Where has God gone?, as some would worry, but rather What is God up to? Or as David Lose, the newly elected president of the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, asked this afternoon - Are we living out of a sense of fear or out of a sense of possibility?

As for me, I will choose the latter. Because you see, to God, the possibilities of "church" are endless, even the reminder that sometimes "church" gets in the way of being followers, disciples, of Jesus Christ. We get so hung up on how we DO church that we forget that what's really important is how we choose to BE the church. And I can't wait to share what I have learned with all of you in the very near future.

I've been grateful for this time away for learning, but especially for the opportunity for renewal that it has offered; of the reminder of the presence of an irrepressible and ever-present Holy Spirit in the midst of an every changing world. I look forward to coming home to all of you with a renewed excitement for who we are and who we can yet be together in Christ our Savior and Lord.

See you this weekend! PJ2

HELP NEEDED!!

red cross logo  Our next blood drive is June 26th (Thursday) from 1-7pm. We are short of volunteers to make calls, and we are also looking for folks to donate during the upcoming drive at our church. We are light on people and hope you can help. PLEASE email  njkagen@comcast.net if you would like to help or need more information.

There is a shortage of blood and this is important.
Help save a life!

grass-blades-banner.jpg   Yes finally spring has arrived and isn't it nice to see all the colorful flowers and the nice green grass. Our grass needs cutting every week and we need folks to help do the job.  We have a few push mowers and a tractor. This is a great 'parent-child' project; working together and helping your church at the same time.  If you have a child in confirmation this may be used as a service project.

Usually the cutting is done toward the end of each week (Thurs. Fri. Sat.) and can be done on your time schedule.. There are also weeds to be pulled - so why not make it a family affair?  There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board - please consider helping and making our church more attractive..  The more folks that sign up the fewer times you would have to do it.  We usually cut through October.

Get in touch with Barbara Wagner with any questions. (lol_prez@lordlife.us)

The Finance Team is looking for people to assist in the annual audit of the church books.  The audit usually takes place in one evening ( to be determined ) for about 3.5 hours.
To help, you only need to be able to balance your own checkbook !
If you can help, please send a note to Finance@lordlife.us, or contact Bill Reich.

computer projector We are always looking for people who can help with the worship services, especially with the computer projection at the 6pm and other services.  If you can help out once a month or so, please contact one of our pastors, or lordlife@lordlife.us.  Thanks!

landscaper_chainsaw.jpgOur church landscaping at Lord of Life is over 20 years old and is in desperate need of some tender loving care and beatification. A few members have committed to having the entire area across the back cleaned and prepped for new shrubbery and mulch.

We are looking for your support for approximately 15 new shrubs and 12 -15 yds. of mulch. The average price per shrub is $40.00 and mulch will be $25.00 / yd .

If you would like to help to beautify our surroundings with a donation towards the landscaping effort you can place a donation in the offering marked "landscaping". We are hoping to have this completed by mid-June so we can enjoy the improved look all summer. If you have any questions about this project you can contact Julie Vorwerk.

  - Thank you for your support!

The Activities Department is looking for a few good men......and women.  ;-)  The Department is interested in starting a knitting/crocheting group, but they need someone to lead it. They also would love to have you bring in pets to visit with the residents or share a talent such as music, art, or dance.

If you are interested, please call 856-235-1214 and ask to speak with SaraLynne McDowell, Activities Director. Also needed by the Department are large print word search books, greeting cards, cake/muffin mixes, bread machine mixes, and canned icing.  Of course, the old standby of nail polish and remover are ALWAYS in demand.

LOL Senior High Mission Trip - Oneida, New York

About this Trip:  This June, our Lord of Life teens and adults will be traveling to the center of New York State; a place called Oneida.  Why there you ask?

Last June 27th, Oneida had a "100 year flood".  Sound familiar?  It has been ten years since our own "100 year flood".  Today I stood in the center of what was the flooded area.  It was quite eerie. People have resumed everyday life but are coping with the question "do we rebuild"  and "how can we afford to rebuild"?  This is where Lord of Life comes in.

We have always been a giving, caring community.  Now another community just like our own needs help.  If you know of a high school teen or an adult that would like to go, the forms are on the bulletin board in the entrance of the church.  Please complete and hand in your deposit to get on the list immediately.

We will be partnering with St. Paul's Methodist Church in Oneida doing rebuilding work June 22 through June 27th.  For those of you that can't go, you may still partner with us by purchasing "Miles to Oneida".  This helps pay for the gas and vans we rent to go on the trip.

Contact Jill Glossner for more info!
