This Is a Test...
I've been wondering something for a while now. Wondering why there is an increasing trend these days that those who are members of the church seem to be seen less and less regularly in each other's company. And even why people seem to feel drawn to participating in the milestones - Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation - but are often missing in between.
I have to admit that I'm struggling with this a little. And we as a community are struggling too in simply being able to be what we believe we've been called to be. Because you see I sincerely believe that if we are a community it means that each and every one of us is vitally important to who we are together; that each and every one of us brings something important to our life together and our mission to each other and the world around us.
But a community of faith is like a building, or as Paul would say, like a body - the body of Christ - and we are on shaky ground when our "parts" are missing in action. Charles Spurgeon, a Baptist pastor of the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London in the late nineteenth century, once said: "I know there are some who say, 'Well, I have given myself to the Lord, but I do not intend to give myself to any church.' Now, why not? 'Because I can be a Christian without it.' ... There is a brick. What is it made for? To help build a house. It is of no use for that brick to tell you that it is just as good a brick while it is kicking about on the ground as it would be in the house..." So are we a nice solid brick wall, or are we a loose collection of bricks lying around on the ground? I don't know...
So just like Charles, I'm feeling that while we here at LOL are often "Holy", that we're also a little "holey" from time to time... That on any given day we're not as solid as we could be because some of our bricks are missing... that we're like someone with an injury to a body part that limits our ability to do those things we are designed, and desire, to do.
So... this is a test... Let me know your thoughts on this subject! I want us to enter into a conversation about what we're seeing, feeling, what we're dealing with in our lives that either draws us together or gets in the way of us being the body we have the potential to be. I really do want to know! So click on the following web link and join the conversation - "To Be or Not To Be: A Brick" http://lordoflifetabernacle.weebly.com/

Quilts for Lutheran World Relief
|
Our small but energetic quilting group is off to a good start. We have met twice and have 3 quilt tops assembled. Each quilt is made to the specific dimension of 80 inches by 60 inches. Each square is 10 inches, so 48 squares complete a quilt top. A single flat bed sheet makes a good back for the quilt, comes the correct size and any color will do. Most of the quilts have a thin loft in the middle for comfort.
These quilts will be sent to Lutheran World Relief and used world-wide by people in need. The quilts are used for warmth, as a rug, as a roof, and as a carrier for belongings. Thanks to modern technology the quilts can be tracked so we will know where our quilts are sent.
All are welcome to come join our group as often as you can. Experience in sewing is not necessary, but one should be able to use scissors. You will be kept busy as there is a large supply of fabric that needs to be cut into squares. A lot of fun is had when we start to arrange the squares to create a design. and one must not be shy in voicing their opinion. Once the quilt is together extra hands are needed to tie the quilt every 10 inches.
If you would like to donate fabric or batting it would be greatly appreciated. Please bring it to the church, label it for the quilting group and leave it in the library.
We meet every other Thursday night from 7:30 - 9:00
. The next time we meet is April 3rd. Please join us for some fun and fellowship!

On March 7th, the Grace Place children "traveled" the USA in our God Bless America tour. Five different states were represented ...New Hampshire, Florida, Arizona, Hawaii, and Montana. Parents researched and brought in souvenirs, facts, and trivia for each state, talked about what the state offered and did a related craft with the children. Other parent Tour Guides guided their group to each individual state. Everyone joined together for a community snack which included something specific to each of the states the children learned about. Everyone, children and adults enjoyed the day. Special thanks to Judy Burgo for helping to organize this trip and making the train that the children traveled on! More photos at www.lordlife.us

 | Bridge of Peace Event - 16-Mar-2013 |
Dear Mission Partners,
We Thank God For You! We thank God once again for your commitment to us here at Bridge of Peace Community Church and to the community we have been called to serve.
Thank you to all the choir directors, choirs, singers, musicians, readers, snack providers, set up crew, ushers, participants, etc. who made The Peace Center Concert such a success. Being able to worship God with 160 people yesterday afternoon was truly amazing. I invite your congregation to a Worship Service and Celebration at Bridge of Peace on May 4, 2014 at 11:00 AM. That day we will inaugurate our new Peace Center pantry. Please stay for refreshments after service and visit our new facility.
We raised $3,060.35 and we were given pledges of $1750 for a total of $4,810.35. With the money raised by members of Bridge of Peace, anonymous benefactors, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation and the concert, we expect to raise $23,000.00 in funds by March 31, 2014. We can never thank you enough for your time and effort on our behalf. Thank you so much for your support of our ministry.
Peace to you,
Pastor Giselle C. Coutinho and the Disciples at Bridge of Peace Community Church, ELCA

One huge thank you to my Lord of life family for sharing in the celebration of my birthday. It was a wonderful treat of food - fun - family - friends. God's blessing
