THOUGHTS IN PRINT; THE ADVENT INSTALLMENT
 - Pastor Sue

This last weekend in my message I used the image of a Sea Anchor, a device used by boats in heavy wind and waves to help them slow down and maintain a safe course, as a way of thinking about the season of Advent. And I challenged all of us, myself included, to take a good long look at our busy-ness this time of year and see where we could eliminate some of it to focus on the things that are really important - faith, relationships with family and friends, rest and rejuvenation... We are called during this season to be prepared for the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus, but I think we are also called to do so in order to be prepared for life, for Jesus to be our Sea Anchor, where by actively seeking Jesus' presence we can keep a steady course through life and not be as vulnerable to being tossed around, flipped over, or sunk by the wind and waves of life.

In light of that I'd like to encourage you to find ways you can do that over the course of the next few weeks. Make a commitment to be in church between now and Christmas and beyond. During Advent you'll find special devotions and children's messages to help us focus on "the reason for the season". Wherever possible, choose to NOT DO some of the things that make you feel the most stressed and rushed, even if it means giving something up that you normally would feel you just have to do. Give yourself and the people you love the gift of time, even if it means getting a few less gifts under the tree. Take a few moments each day, especially first thing in the morning or in the evening, as quiet time; time to simply sit back, take a deep breath and remember how much Jesus wants to reach out and touch your heart and let you know that you are loved. I've made a number of devotional resources available both at church and on-line on the Welcome page of our Faith Formation site to help with that as well. Look for them here:

http://lordoflifetabernacle.weebly.com/

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you as we live into the Christmas that is rapidly approaching and the gifts of peace, love, joy, and hope that it has to offer, all because of a baby in a manger who changed the world. Seek those gifts and I assure you, you'll never be disappointed.

Peace - Pastor Sue

Many thanks to the parents, teachers, and children for supplying the home cooked meal.  (photos online www.lordlife.us)
