THOUGHTS IN PRINT - From Pastor Sue
As many of you know I spent last week on vacation and several days at Cape May with my friend, Pastor Giselle from Bridge of Peace in Camden, and my almost 13 year old Labrador retriever, Bailey. Amazingly enough, while I have lived and worked in New Jersey since September of 1994 I had never been to Cape May. And we did all the usual stuff while we were there - sitting on the beach, a dolphin watch dinner cruise, collecting Cape May diamonds, enjoying the sunset and the flag ceremony at Sunset Beach, a little wine tasting at the Cape May winery, and of course some shopping... But one of my favorite activities whenever I'm at the beach is flying kites. I've had a rainbow colored delta kite for years and I had fun adding a couple of new tails (wind socks) to it this year. One was a goldfish and the other was a spinning tail with streamers about 16 feet long.

Flying that kite always makes me smile. And it gives me a sense of peace. As I let the line out to its full 500 feet and the kite gets smaller and smaller against the deep blue sky I'm reminded of how small I am in the grand scheme of God's creation. But I'm also reminded that God still cares enough about me to provide a constant and unfailing wind that lifts me up and lets me soar and gives me the strength and a desire to share who I am as a child of God with the world.
Sometimes I'm a little more like that goldfish, who every once in a while ends up upside down and lookin' a little out of control. And sometimes I'm like that spinning tail that seems to have boundless energy and beauty. But no matter what kind of "tail" I am at any given moment, the kite that carries me, the kite I am tied tightly to, Jesus Christ, lifts me up, carries me ever forward, and gives me direction in life.
As we head into a new program year together, and as we make some important decisions about what pastoral ministry will look like here at Lord of Life, I know that whatever comes our way, we are tethered to the ONE who lifts us up and cares for us always. I'm looking forward to flying with all of you!
Peace, Pastor Sue |

Fuller Center - "Lord of Life House" Sponsorship Update
|
Hello LOL family. I wanted to let everyone know that the results of our home sponsorship fund raising yielded $3976, which will soon be provided to Fuller Center New Jersey Pines (FCNJP) to assist with unmet financial needs of a family devastated by Sandy last year. That was Step 1, and now comes Step 2...the FUN part!
A family home in Ventnor has been identified and is being processed by the Long Term Recovery Group case manager, and should be ready for work to begin by early Sep. The family is the Nguyen's; a mother, father and daughter. A little background is they had sold their previous home, and contracted on their 'new' home, with the settlement date unfortunately occurring 2 days after Sandy struck. They could not afford to back out of settlement, so they began the heartbreaking process of rebuilding their 'new' home. They exhausted all of their financial resource in getting the home partially restored so that at least they could live in it... well let's say 'stay' in it since it still does not have heat and is finally getting hot water. Reportedly when Mr. Nguyen received a call from FCNJP that they were to have LOL sponsor their home ($$ for material and volunteer labor to do the work) he became very emotional. His tears were literally tears of joy and you all helped make that happen!
So looking to the very near future we will begin sending teams of volunteers. I am collecting names to add to my e-mail listing from LOL members and non-members who have a heart for this service work. If you would like to receive e-mail notification when opportunities for you to participate are beginning, please e-mail Ed Hourihan at ejhourihan@verizon.net .
