Brothers and Sisters... Did you know that there is an election right aound the corner? And it doesn't involve Corey Booker or Chris Christie. No, this election is specific to Lord of Life and requires a vote to call a pastor. Perhaps a better way of expressing it is to say that we now have an opportunity to extend a "regular call" to Pastor Sue Jones. Following one year of internship and three years of pastoral ministry among us, the congregation will be asked to say "Amen" to an ongoing relationship with a pastor who we have all come to know and love. This summer alone, we have seen her care, commitment, and leadership flavor our Junior High and Senior High mission trips to Baltimore, Maryland and the Delaware Bay Coast. She had an enormous hand in the success we experienced during eight sessions of Vacation Bible School and a phenomenal closing on Friday night with close to 200 children, youth, and adults in attendance. Her preaching continues to be always "on text" and consistently "on target" as she shares the gospel message in her own "engineer / techy" way. And her continual work on helping us "live into our new vision" with exciting new strategies for congregational council, staff, and members is soon to have a dynamic impact on our future together. I believe Lord of Life is prepared to "catch the next wave" for ministry and grow qualitatively and quantitatively in new and exciting ways. In the recent past, Pastor Sue and I have cultivated a relationship that allows us to pastorally "divide and conquer" and "double team" many more ministerial challenges than we could if there was only one pastor on staff. Our level of trust for each other has grown through the years, and our partnership has proved to be a marvelous blessing for us and the congregation. And so it is now time to extend a regular call to Pastor Sue that allows her to more fully settle into a pastoral role that takes greater advantage of her gifts, expertise, and passion; all helping us to expand our invitation to congregation and community as we improve our ability to serve at home and beyond. I strongly encourage you to join us for a special congregational meeting to be held on Sunday, September 22, at 9:45 AM. Bishop Tracie Bartholomew will be present to conduct the meeting and all active confirmed members at Lord of Life will be eligible to vote yes or no to extend a call that is not a term call (like Pastor Sue's previous three year call) and is not co-terminus with my call (which means I could leave LOL for another call or retire and Pastor Sue would still be able to remain as a pastor at LOL). As always when considering a decision of this magnitude, be prayerful as you ponder this extremely important choice for our community of faith. And then, please make every effort to cast your vote with the full commitment to support the future ministry of Lord of Life with your time, talent, and treasure. If you have any questions about the process for election or the future direction of our ministry, don't hesitate to contact me, Congregational Council President Scott Glossner, or Pastor Sue. Since 1985 the Holy Spirit has been leading and guiding the work we do as disciples of Jesus CHRIST...and it has been an amazing journey. May that same Spirit move us into an even more gracious and joyful future together! Your Brother in Christ, Pastor David Jones |

SONRISE NATIONAL PARK 2013 Vacation Bible School - A Heartfelt THANK YOU!
It's been a few days since the end of our 2013 VBS program and yet the memories linger! The fun, the learning, the time spent together, and those really great songs, are still running around in my head. I'm especially grateful for the feelings that linger, and the reality that we all spent some really wonderful time together through the power of the Holy Spirit as people of faith! People from a number of other places besides Lord of Life even.

So thank you to all of the parents and grandparents and other family members and friends who played a role in getting the word out and getting your children here! Thank you to all of our Confirmation and Sr. High Youth who were such an integral part of making everything happen. And thank you to the folks named below who were our primary support team through the course of the week! May you be as blessed by your serving as we were! It was my pleasure to serve with you!
And thank you to the Heinrich and Pifer families, and Alex Miller from LOL and Rhea and Kyley from Bridge of Peace for making the trek to Lutheran Care this last Monday for VBS On-The-Road. I'd also like to add my sincere appreciation to my morning adult team who just came and stayed to help with the mass of youngsters in 'Lil Bear Country, Rat Rehberger, Jill Glossner, Joyce Harper, and Dawn Heinrich.
Peace, Pastor Sue
Some final words on VBS:
There were 109 Registered Participants - The largest registration in recent memory! Over 200 people participated in the Family Fun/Closing Festivities on Friday. Just over $496 and 200lbs of supplies were collected for Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge. Pastors David and Sue ended in a virtual tie for the title of Wildlife Rescue Ranger with only 27 cents separating them when the final numbers were tallied.

PIPE ORGAN TOUR: Tue Aug 20th
Would you be interested in touring the LARGEST pipe organ in the world? It is located at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Rick Krause is interested in taking a group to see the instrument. The number of visitors that can be accommodated on the tour is limited and will be allocated on a "first come, first served" basis. The tour will last approximately two hours and involves a considerable amount of walking, climbing stairs, and maneuvering in tight spaces. Visitors are advised to wear shoes and clothes that are "comfortable". Wheelchair visitors can be accommodated but some parts of the organ chambers and Hall are not fully accessible. Please note that the Hall can be warm in the summer and cool in the winter if the heating/ventilation system is off. The tour donation is $20 per person and goes directly to the Restoration Fund. If interested, please contact Rick as soon as possible!

Some thoughts/insights from the Confirmation class:
7th graders:
"I should live my life in a way that shows I love Jesus."
"God's peace is everlasting & eternal. Peace really makes you feel better."
8th grader:
"Most of my friends don't go to church so when they don't believe stories I tell them, it makes my faith strong when I try to prove it."
Sometimes it's just that simple. They really make me smile.
