Brothers and Sisters...
Throughout my years of ministry, I have been asked to be present to offer a variety of blessings. A number of parishioners have requested that I visit their homes and do a house blessing. And so I have moved from room to room to ask God's blessing on all who dwell in this "house now become a home". As you can imagine, I have been present to pray God's blessing over numerous scouting events, Arbor Day festivities, remembrances of veterans, opening day ceremonies for baseball and softball seasons, and once I even got to bless firefighters and their new truck.
Requests for blessings have also brought me to new business venues for fellow parishioners; like the midwife clinic of Connie Sheie, the Lakes Office Supply store of the Magrann family, the culinary gift store, An American Table, of Cindie Zippilli and most recently, the pool business of the Varano family.
So what do you pray for when blessing a business that has been run from a home for over 8 years and now finds itself in the old hardware store in Yates plaza on Route 206 in Tabernacle. You can bet that there will be references to water and words about fairness, honesty and God's blessing. Here's what I said...
On this beautiful day we gather to bless the owners, employees and customers of All Star Pool Service. And before we do, let us remember how God has used the gift of water throughout all time to bless his faithful people...
In the beginning God's Spirit moved over the waters even before He said, "Let there be Light!" and then the Lord separated the waters from the dry land and filled the seas with swarms of living creatures...and it was good.
Later in time, God protected the baby Moses as he floated in a reed basket on the Nile River before he was rescued by Pharaoh's daughter...this baby became the man who delivered the people of Israel from slavery when at God's command he parted the water of the Red Sea allowing men, women, and children to escape from certain death at the hands of the Egyptian army.
Following 40 years in the wilderness, it was God who led Joshua and the Israelites through the waters of the Jordan River to the Promised Land; a land flowing with milk and honey.
And then, much later in time, God's only Son was baptized in the same Jordan River waters by his cousin John who saw a dove descend on Jesus and heard God's words from heaven, "This is my beloved Son with whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him!"
And it was Jesus, in his time of earthly ministry, who helped a lame man who lay by the Pool of Bethesda to walk again. This Jesus also brought sight to a blind man after that man washed in the Pool of Siloam following the Savior's caring touch. |
|
|
Now Lord, we ask your blessing on All Star Pool Service; a business that celebrates the gift of water and the joy it brings families who swim, play and relax in their pools all over central and south Jersey. May all the customers who enter this store receive a warm welcome and experience a caring and honest relationship with those who will serve their needs. May this business continue to provide a decent living and a fair profit for the Varano family and Jeremy and Justin who work with them. Keep the owners and all employees safe in their travel and work so they can enjoy the fruits of their labor. In all they think, say and do, may they be inspired by your eternal truth that each one has been "blessed by you to be a blessing!"
All this we pray in the name of the God who creates, the God who saves, the God who sustains...God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen!
Your Brother in CHRIST, Pastor Jones

We were able to give the Food Pantry of Bridge of Peace $872.50 and the same to our Senior High Mission trip. How great is that!!! Most of the profit came from the Chinese Auction which was handled by Betty Mastrillo - many thanks, Betty, for a wonderful job. Thank you to all who donated items for the auction.
Thanks to Brian Quinn (and his nephew Sean and good friend Michael) for such a fabulous dinner, and to the kitchen crew of Ed Hourihan, Dave Miller, and Harry Granfors.
Thanks to Mary Stroup, Jamie Millere, Cheryl Dennison, Myra Bell, Julie Vorwerk, Sheri Perkins, Barbara Wagner, Gloria Broscious, Lynne Larson, and Fran Bubeck for all of their help with advertising, tickets, and decorating. We couldn't have done this without you!
A special thanks goes out to all the ladies who supplied their wedding gowns for us to model, from 2011 back to 1914!-all those who loaned their wedding pictures-and our beautiful models, Cheryl Larson, Julie Vorwerk, Lydia Leach, Tammy Miller, Devon Borkowski, Jamie Millere, Jessica Storm, Kathryn Chromeck and Stephanie Dennison.
Last but not least, a big thanks goes out to Scott Glossner for a fabulous job he did as our MC for the evening. ----Barbara Wagner |

The Junior High mission trip is scheduled Sun July 14 thru Wed July 17th. We will be traveling to Baltimore, Maryland. We will be learning at the Lutheran World Relief Organization, getting a tour of the Basilica of Baltimore, and wherever we are serving. We will be serving in a place called Paul's Place - which is why we are collecting things for the hygiene kits - we still need more travel sized things. Thanks to whomever has donated so far!
We are also serving at First Fruit's Farm, The Samaritan Women, Amazing Grace food pantry, Christ Lutheran church - the church hosting us, and finally at Jerusalem Mill. We will be having fun at Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum at the Inner Harbor and Jerusalem Mill on the way down. There are 18 of us going, 8 adults and 10 kids. Tina Leach is the coordinator for the trip, and Pastor Sue is our spiritual leader. The theme this year is all about hunger and the less fortunate.
How you can help!
We would like to ask the congregation to donate various items for Paul's Place such as:
- First Aid Kit supplies (e.g. Band-Aids, antibiotic packets, 2x2" gauze)
- Hygiene Kit supplies (e.g. shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, double edged razors)
- Foot Kit supplies (white socks, moleskin, gauze tape, etc.)
- Oral Kit (oral gel, floss picks, Sensodyne toothpaste, etc.)
Look for the box in the narthex in which to put the collections.
You can download, view or print-out the list at this link ( .pdf file ):

Thanks to everyone for the "goodies" that continue to show up in the box near the front door. It is most appreciated. The Activity Department is in need of nail polish remover, candy bars for Bingo prizes, and bird seed for the feeders in the Butterfly Garden. There is always an on-going need for small stuffed animals for resident birthday bags. EVERY resident gets a bag for their birthday loaded with special little treats and surprises.
LOL is also being asked to supply two, homemade cakes for the Strawberry and Ice Cream booth for June Day (June 15). If you can supply one, or both, please call Carol at 609-654-4077.

Stewardship Info
We want to be sure everyone is aware of the current status of our church finances. As of the end of May our "general fund offerings received" vs. our "approved spending plan" still show a serious negative gap.
Unless things improve quickly, we will have a problem getting through the lean months of the summer. The issue is the receipts are dramatically down this year, the spending is what was planned with the budget.
For this reason we are asking each family to please consider getting current with your 2013 pledge and also to consider an extra donation in whatever amount you can manage. Forms for this purpose were distributed with the first 1/3 year giving statements (in your mailboxes or being mailed) and are available at the church.
Catching up with your pledge amount and/or an additional contribution will enable the continuation of focusing on providing the ministries and mission that we all believe God is calling us to do. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers!

All are welcome to our new Bible Study focusing on the book, "One Month To Live" by Kerry and Chris Shook. "None of us knows how much time we have--thirty minutes, thirty days, thirty years. But when we are living passionate, obedient lives--full of love for God and others--it really doesn't matter." We don't get to decide the dates on our gravestone. Only God knows. Our lives are in His hands. We get to decide how we're going to use the dash between the two dates. What are you spending yours on? Are you living the dash, knowing fully who you are and why you're here? Or dashing to live, hurriedly spending precious time chasing things that really don't matter to you? God wants us to realize that our time on earth is limited so we will spend it wisely. Come and see how you can change your life in 30 days to reflect a Christ centered life. |
Calling all book lovers.
Come join us for stimulating discussions, fellowship and of course, dessert! Need a ride? Please leave a message in the church office.
Last Book for the spring, June 18, 7pm: "This I Remember" the superb autobiography by Eleanor Roosevelt.
