From the Desk of Pastor Dave

 Brothers and Sisters...

The 40 days of Lent have always been a good time to "do a heart check" and then "make the attitude and action adjustment" necessary to more fully submit to the will of God.  During this penitential season of the church year, we are invited into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and given opportunity to live more fully under his lordship and influence.

Our response can take many forms...a renewed commitment to weekly worship...reading the gospel of Luke which has been assigned for this year... contributing to our Lenten project which supports the rehab work being done on 2 New Jersey Synod churches devastated by Hurricane Sandy (Holy Trinity in Brant Beach and Faith in Lavalette)...using your skills to help with ongoing Fuller Center for Housing in the Jersey Pines reconstruction projects in Atlantic City...participating in one of our Wednesday bible studies or a 3D Sunday study in March...visiting the Stations of the Cross on our Meditation Walk or on our website...using devotions provided by LOL or on several websites...praying for members and friends by using our weekly bulletin, prayer brochure or website...allowing yourself to draw closer to the heart and mind of Christ whenever and wherever possible!

Recently, we received the newsletter of one of our neighboring congregations, St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Medford.  An anonymous Lenten poem in this publication invited the congregation to take a proactive approach to the challenge of Lent 2013.  I encourage us to a similar thing.

"This Lent, mend a quarrel / Seek out a forgotten friend / Dismiss a suspicion and replace it with trust / Write a letter of love / Share some treasure / Give a soft answer / Encourage youth / Manifest your loyalty in word and deed / Keep a promise / Find the time / Forgo a grudge / Forgive an enemy / Listen / Apologize if you were wrong / Try to understand / Examine your demands on others / Think first of somebody else / Appreciate / Be kind; be gentle / Laugh a little / Laugh a little more / Express your gratitude / Go to church / Welcome a stranger / Gladden the heart of a child / Speak your love / Speak it again / Speak it yet once again."

Praying that we will all have a Lenten journey that brings healing and hope to our bodies, minds and spirits.

Your Brother in CHRIST, Pastor David Jones

ANNUAL MEETING

Lord of Life ANNUAL MEETING 2013 - Feb 10 at noon

There will be a brunch at 11:30am, followed by our annual meeting for 2013.  During the meeting, we plan to approve the 2013 Spending Plan and vote on church officers. This is your opportunity to learn what is happening in your church and to voice your opinion on the Spending Plan, ministries and other on-going projects. A program will be held in the FDC for children through grade 5, and confirmation students are encouraged to help out.

Because a quorum (15%) of voting members is needed, we urge all adults and confirmed teens to attend. Without a quorum, we will be forced to reschedule the meeting.
The following members will be nominated by the Nominating Committee:
Jack Miller, Allyson Beckett, Tony Eith, Tracey Gibboni, Bill Leach, and Donna Rudderow.
Nominations can also be taken from the floor at the meeting.

Lenten Devotional Opportunities

  • Devotional materials for families, youth, and adults will be available at the church.
  • 3D Sundays return in Lent with a study entitled - WHY? Making Sense of God's Will
    • March 3: Why do the Innocent Suffer?
    • March 10: Why do my Prayers Go Unanswered?
    • March 17: Why Can't I See God's Will for My Life?
    • March 24: Why God's Love Prevails

We'll meet at the church at 6:30 on these Sundays for Desert, Devotions, and Discovery

  • This year we also encourage everyone to consider being part of the normally scheduled activities on Wednesdays which include several bible study opportunities as well as the New Life Choir.

Thanks!

Thank You!

-  to Jill Glossner for providing an additional breakfast casserole for our Christmas morning brunch. It was a big hit and Pastor Sue even enjoyed what was left over! Which wasn't much by the way!

to all our parents, drivers, and adult volunteers for the Martin Luther King Day of Service retreat at the Synagogue in Marlton and at Bridge of Peace in Camden - Myra Bell, Deb Chromeck, Colleen Dayton, Ed Harding, Tina Leach, Betsy Mottershead; to Rabbi Gary Gans and Pastor Giselle Coutinho and their congregations for making us feel welcome; and as always to Marie Lamb for keeping all of us organized.

-  to Harry Granfors for putting wheels on the Baptismal Font. Wow, what a wonderful improvement for moving the font around the sanctuary!

Sr. High Mission Trip Info
We thank Jill Glossner for taking on the challenge of coordinating our Senior High Trip this year. The trip will take place during the last full week in June from the 23rd through the 29th. The trip this year will be to the Delaware Bay area of New Jersey in support of Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in that area. Please keep your eyes and ears open for more information in the very near future.

Our next trip there will be the 3rd Tuesday, Not the 1st Tuesday, in April and we will be doing "Breakfast for DInner". Thanks again for everyone who made or bought food and supplies and all those who came for the evening to makes this such a success!!
