Brothers and Sisters...
On the last weekend of 2012, Renee and I took the opportuity to worship with our Methodist sisters and brothers at Hope UM church in Voorhees, New Jersey.  This congregation is only several years younger than Lord of Life and is one of the more dynamic mainline Protestant churches in South Jersey.  They have a clear commitment to sharing the gospel with their community and they are not afraid to "step out in faith" in creative ways (the Thursday after we worshiped with them they initiated a "drive-thru prayer ministry" out of a closed bank that they had purchased near their property).

The message at worship the morning we attended was focused on Godly resolutions for the year 2013.  Three questions were raised for us by the preacher: "Where are you?...Where are you going?...How are you going to get there?".  His words of challenge and encouragement raised an awareness that each one of us needs to regularly ask these three questions and then respond with faithful answers and action!

Perhaps it's time that we pray more often than ever before...or participate in a bible study or small group opportunity..or find ways to worship more frequently and invite others to join us...or serve as a volunteer in church or community...or share our financial resources more generously...or change our priorities and goals to more intentionally and gracefully reflect our faith!

There's a brand new year ahead for each one of us.  And even if we don't know what the future holds...we do know who holds the future in divine hands.  It's the God who creates, saves and sustains us...whose LOVE comes down in the midst of every day of our life...who is best known to us as JESUS who is the Christ.

     Have a Blessed New Year!

Your brother in Christ, Pastor David Jones

Info of Note

Sock it to Poverty!

IT'S Sock Time - Please remember to return your filled socks for the Sunday School Sock-it-to-Poverty effort ASAP! And thank you!

KITCHEN CONFUSION - For some time now there's been some confusion concerning how the stove in the kitchen adjacent to the Fellowship Hall may be used until we upgrade the equipment and install a vented hood. Hopefully this will help! - It is fine to bake or warm in the oven or to boil or warm on the stove top. However, frying on the stove top, broiling in the oven, or anything else that has the potential to allow oil or grease to spatter is not allowed. Please feel free to contact the church office if you need any additional information. We'll update the status on the kitchen as soon as the required work is completed.
Until then, HAPPY BOILING!
Editor's Notes - This is the first 2013 issue of the LifeLines, which is planned to be published about every 2 weeks during the year.  Feel free to invite those interested in our ministries to a subscription.   And please send inputs or photos to 'lifelines.news@gmail.com'.  Thanks for your support!

Confirmation Corner!

Beatitudes from the 6th grade Confirmation class

During one of the 6th grade Confirmation classes, we learned about the Beatitudes. In the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1-12), Jesus challenged his listeners to have different, very different, attitudes from those their society valued. We created our own translation using modern and easy to understand words.

  • You are blessed if you think about things other than your needs and you think about God.
  • You are blessed if you deeply care about others.
  • You are blessed if you don't brag.
  • Be nice to people because they will be nice to you. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
  • People without evil hearts go to heaven.
  • People who are lovers not fighters are children of God.
  • God blesses do gooders so they become angels.

Women's Ministries

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!!  We will be traveling to Bridge of Peace on February 5th and having a Super Bowl Party.  We will be serving all kinds of appetizers and dessert and playing some games involving nerf footballs.  If anyone can donate appetizers (any kind will do), or fruit please let me know.  We had a couple requests of Spinach dip in pumpernickle bread, chicken fingers and chicken wings.  The kids are happy with any type of food so anything you can help us out with would be greatly appreciated.  If you would like to donate money, please make the check out to Betty Mastrillo so I can cash the check and buy what is needed.  Thanking you all  in advance for you help.

Lutheran Care

Many thanks for all of the "goodies" that I continue to find in the L.C. box.  Your little acts of kindness mean so much to the residents of the home.  Since they are on limited or no income, little things such as calendars, note pads, useable greeting cards, nail polish, stuffed animals, etc. mean a lot to them.

Music & Worship

A great big THANK YOU to all who shared their gifts to make our Advent and Christmas season Music services such wonderful times of worship.  THANK YOU to the Celebration Ringers, God Rods, Instrumentalists, Kidz Praize, New Life Choir, Sunday School Teachers, Sunday School Music Leaders, Tech Team, Vocalists, Worship Servants, Worship Space Team, and Youth Praise!
