When I arrived in Haiti 39 years ago, these opening verses from Genesis 12 encouraged me:

Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.So Abram departed.

After recovering from near fatal typhoid and hepatitis contracted in Haiti, I left my parents home in Upstate New York - the home where I grew up, where all my friends were, the places I knew and was known. I left all that was comfortable and headed south towards Haiti, even though a doctor told me, "You will die if you go back there." In Florida when I gave my ticket money in a church offering, the Lord provided a free cruise ship ride to Haiti. As I stood on the ship's deck and Haiti's mountains came into view, the Holy Spirit said, "I have given you this nation for your inheritance." I was twenty-two with no money, no church backing and no place to stay.

I knew I was called to preach and often walked or rode horseback to preach in villages. Today Yvonne and I host and produce Haiti's most beloved Creole Christian television show, La Bonne Nouvelle. Two million Haitians hear the gospel preached everyday on 85 stations from Boston to the Caribbean. On youtube.com/telelouange we have 3000 subscribers and over 2,000,000,000 views. God has increased our effectiveness beyond our wildest imaginations!
