Last summer, the Minister of Commerce invited me to lunch. He loves La Bonne Nouvelle and is an avid fan. Our old friends, Bobby and Sherry Burnette, are building a marketplace for Haitian merchants near the Dominican border. It is a multimillion dollar project and they wanted a government official to see the work. So on behalf of our friends, I called Minister Laleau and invited him to meet me at the project.

I spoke with the Minister several times and made three different appointments, but each time something came up and the busy politician postponed. Finally, we agreed to a Sunday afternoon. As we drove the two hours to our friends' mission compound in Fond Parisian, I told Yvonne, "I am waiting for him to cancel. And Bobby and Sherry are preparing a big lunch and made signs to welcome him." Not only did the Minister not cancel, he came with his wife and toured the project for hours after we ate together!

Eternity in view

La Bonne Nouvelle reaches into the lives and homes of Haitians from every walk of life. Once a witchdoctor asked me, "Are you on television?" Then he said, "My children watch you." Another time gang members walked toward me, "Oh, wow!" They exclaimed, "It is Brother Joel! Thank you, thank you for what you do for our country!" Imagine the eternal impact La Bonne Nouvelle is making; we will not know the full extent until we get to heaven!

Your prayers and gifts make La Bonne Nouvelle possible; without your help Yvonne and I could not film and edit the show. Thank you for your prayers, we feel the protection and blessing of answered prayers. At the beginning of the year our retaining wall collapsed into the street; estimates for repair were beyond our budget. We did not share the need but one young couple wrote an email and said, "We want to pay for the repair of the wall." A few months ago, the local phone provider gave us new phones, internet and monthly minutes! Praise God!

Great reward

At the end of October, we will be enjoying time in the Northeast to see the autumn leaves. A friend is giving us a place on the ocean for two weeks; we are so grateful. Then Yvonne and her sisters will inter their Mom's ashes at their Father's grave in Jersey. Please remember them in prayer.
