Silver and gold have I none;

but such as I have give I thee:

In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth

rise up and walk. Acts 3:6

La Bonne Nouvelle Okap
La Bonne Nouvelle Okap

Four days a week, Yvonne walks over the mountain behind our house. She has done this for the 25 years we have lived on this street. A few years ago an eight year old girl ran to her crying.

Yvonne realized the child had been sent by her mother to beg and told her, "You go tell your mother I am not going to give her money." Not long after that the woman set up a stand to sell drinks and meals on the corner.

One day as Yvonne past she said, "Good morning!"

The woman demanded, "What are you going to give me?"

Yvonne walked into her stand and said, "I am not going to give you anything except the word of God. You live a life of sin and until you repent and believe in Jesus Christ, you will suffer. You must change."

The woman smiled, "I go to church."

Yvonne told her, "It is more than going to church it is forsaking sin and loving Christ." And she promised to pray for the woman.

The power of prayer

When Yvonne hikes the five miles over the mountain, she prays; not just for the poor family but for all of Haiti. Last week, she told me how they have transformed from being skinny and rude to plump and kind. And now they greet her with love and respect!

Yvonne said, "It is the most amazing transformation and I believe it is the result of prayer. The whole family is changed. Unbelievable!"

Just last week the two boys grabbed her hands and asked, "Please, please, ask the Pastor to give us a soccer ball."

I had received cases of non inflatable soccer balls for distribution. And the day before their request, someone gave me a box of Creole New Testaments to hand out. So together we drove to the woman's stand and gave her a New Testament and the boys a soccer ball!

Prayer & the Word

Thirty-nine years ago, this month I landed in Haiti for the first time with an address and a few dollars in my pocket; I was twenty years old. When I gave my testimony in church through a translator the Holy Spirit spoke to me, "The same way I changed your life, I will change the lives of these people." God continues to keep His word and change lives through the simplicity of "prayer and the ministry of the word."

Pray for Haiti as we enter the month of hurricanes; we need the rain in the North but not  destructive wind. The long hot summer has been hard on crops as it is on donations. Please give generously to Haiti for Christ Ministries. For convenience you may give at our secure website Haiti For Christ  Your prayers for us are as powerful as our prayers for the poor are. Thank you and may God abundantly bless you.
