Three man bike!

Ile de la Tortue, Tortuga Island is the Northern most point of Hispaniola. Seventy square miles with approximately 35,000 isolated, poor residents. Last week I traveled 8 hours by motorcycle to a Northern coastal city. Not far behind me, my Haitian team followed in a pickup truck full of camera and crusade ministry equipment.

 

When we arrived in Port de Paix, we transferred our equipment, from the pickup, including the motorcycle, unto a rough Haitian sailboat! We then sailed two miles across the Atlantic to Tortuga; where we slept on a church floor for five nights! During the days, we filmed a La Bonne Nouvelle episode; nights I showed Christian Creole films before ministering.

  

  

Poor rich in faith

  

Last May I was the keynote speaker at a Miami Haitian church conference, the invitation came from a hospital administrator, the wife of a La Bonne Nouvelle fan. When Maude told me that she was organizing a team of Haitian American medical professionals to hold a weeklong clinic on impoverished Tortuga, God pricked my heart to go with them to evangelize and film a show.  The upcoming La Bonne Nouvelle Ile de la Tortue will feature the incredible risks and sacrifices fifty Haitians made to hold a clinic on the island!

 

Three common law couples saved during our time there asked to be legally married. An impromptu service ensued with a tablecloth-veiled bride! The vow of the groom was, "Since I am too poor to buy you a ring, I hold your ring finger as a commitment of my love and faithfulness to you." Tears flowed and I prepared the La Bonne Nouvelle bible study that will be aired to 2 million Haitian viewers, based on this! 

  

 In 2005 I obeyed the Lord and bought two TV cameras, I did not know the first thing about television production. Yvonne said, "What are you going to do with those?" Then I felt to create a TV show that would minister to the Haitian people by showing the beauty of Haiti; it was a novel idea since missionaries and media focus on Haitian misery to raise money from Americans! Today La Bonne Nouvelle, The Good News, is aired on 100 stations in several countries and 2,000,000 Haitians see and hear what God is doing everyday!

  

Last week I returned an unknown missed call on my Haiti cell phone, I said, "Hello, this is Frere Joel." There was a pause and then, "Hello, this is the First Lady of the Republic. I want you to know that I am a big fan and I would like to meet you."
