Local Market Statistics- February Update

The start of the year ushered in a wave of good news about a hot stock market,
higher wages and an active home sales environment. At the same time, housing
prices have continued to rise, and the low inventory situation and affordability crunch has been particularly hard on first-time buyers struggling to get into the market. Nevertheless, buyer activity is easily outpacing seller activity in much of the country, culminating in relatively quick sales and low supply. Demand definitely remained strong this month!

Appraiser Trend Study

In recent years, the National Association of REALTORS has heard concerns regarding a perceived shortage in appraisers. NAR is also aware of reports of long turnaround times for a
ppraisals, higher  and/or rush fees in certain areas, and difficulty in bringing new appraisers into the profession. NAR seeks research to determine whether a shortage of appraisers exists and to what extent, as well as to further explore the other issues facing the appraisal profession.

The Opiate Epidemic-

"What Realtors Can Do" Seminar

The Montville Township Health Department is sponsoring a free 1-hour educational seminar entitled "The Opiate Epidemic - What Realtors Can Do" on March 28, 2017 from 2-3pm at the Montville Municipal Building at 195 Changebridge Road in Montville Township. Intentional misuse of prescription opiates often leads to heroin addiction, and open houses and home showings are often targets for those seeking to obtain these medications illegally. Brad Seabury, Chief Assistant Prosecutor of the Morris County Prosecutors Office will provide an overview of the epidemic in Morris County, and also instruct Realtors and their clients in how to properly secure medications in homes that are for sale. Geared towards Realtors and members of the public interested in putting their homes on the market, this seminar is also open to all those with an interest in drug prevention activities, including Municipal Alliances, Health Departments, Police Departments, Municipal Administrators, and elected officials. While there are no public health CEU's offered, free "Lock Bags" will be given to the first 25 attendees to arrive. There is no fee to attend, but they request attendees RSVP to the Montville Health Department at 973-331-3316.

PCBOR is working with the Passaic County Prosecutors office to bring a similar seminar to our Members at our Board office, date to be announced.
