PTSA General Meeting
"Money Matters"

The PTSA General Meeting on October 28 was very well attended. Jean Daphnis, Financial Aid Director at Miami-Dade College, provided information on financial aid opportunities when applying to college. Lisa Narcisse, Branch Manager at PNC Bank, offered insights into saving and spending as our students approach college. A big thank you to my PTSA Programming Chair Barbara Gelber and Hospitality Chair Hillary Smith Frankel for making " Money Matters" event an awesome evening.

Thank You, Rose!

The Hispanic Heritage Luncheon was also a retirement luncheon for Rose Smith. After over 30 years working for MDCPS, Rose is beaming with excitement as a new chapter of her life begins. Rose smiled as she was telling the faculty she is enjoying relaxing, going to the beach and the gym. Thank you Rose for years of service! The faculty and staff will miss you and wish you all the best in your retirement.

LIFE ON CAMPUS
A Busy Time for AOHT

The Academy of Hospitality & Tourism Visits FIU
AOHT students toured the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism in the FIU's Biscayne Bay Campus. The students visited one classroom, learn about all of the benefits of majoring in Hospitality at FIU, and asked questions about the Chaplin school and FIU in general. Students were also able to tour the whole campus, and had a chance to sign up to volunteer at the next SOBE Food & Wine Festival. They also had the amazing opportunity to have lunch in FIU's culinary section, with food made by FIU students and served by students. It was a very enlightening experience.

AOHT Experiences the FRLA Food and Restaurant Show
Students Serena Beze, Carla Bouza, Adriana Recinos, Monique Wilkinson and David Spiegel were selected to attend the annual FRLA Food and Restaurant Show in Orlando, FL with Ms. Gregory and Mr. Simmons. The selection was based on the essay the students wrote about Mr. Rosen of Rosen Resort & Hotels. The FRLA (Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association) show features more than 100 companies all showcasing their brand and products, and distributing many free samples. The students were able to experience the restaurant side of the hospitality industry and to speak with many CEO's and entrepreneurs, and to ask questions about the industry. The students also had the chance to tour the nearby Orlando Science Center, which features many amazing exhibits, including the Traveling Mummy exhibit.

DECA Breakfast at Jungle Island
DECA members had their first event of the year, the DECA Breakfast, which started the DECA year with a big bang. The breakfast was held at Jungle Island with an all-you-can-eat breakfast, networking opportunities with other DECA students from other schools and a hypnotist show who called students from the audience to the stage. The breakfast is always a great welcome to new and returning DECA students to see and feel the real vibe of DECA, an international association of marketing students.

Did You Miss the Fusion Performance?

Fusion MBSH, under Mr. Wallace' s leadership, performed an all new, unique routine for the Crown and Capers show at Miami Beach Senior High. Title "A Scientific Experiment". Music: "Time"by Nathan Lanier.
