March 2015 Part II
Volume 67 Number 66

Wayne

This week we are going to bring you up to date on the North American Freight Statistics.

No one can say that the NorthAmerican Transportation Association doesn't have its finger on the pulse of the transportation industry.

So that our readers can stay up to date, we will touch not only on truck, rail pipeline and vessel freight but also on freight with Canada and Mexico.

In addition, coming to you and to our Facebook page, we will be adding another White Paper from one of the oldest law schools in the U.S. Founded in 1908 as the New Jersey Law School, it merged with the University of Newark in 1936 and became one of the most recognized public universities in the world, and the eight oldest college in the country. The white paper on the Misclassification of Independent Contractors contains the most up to date information on this subject and was just released.

For those of who have been hiding under a rock these past several years, we want to reiterate the fact that the Independent Contractor Model is still under attack especially since the NLRB's intervention in October 2014.

You may want to think about changing your business model. Join NTA and get a risk assessment of your company.

Remember, you may not be able to succeed on your own without help. If you are thinking about joining an association for help, you need the best. NTA has several experienced law firms throughout the US that may be able to help you.

NT-Association.com will help your independent contractors maintain their status as an IC.

When it comes to independent contractors, NTA is the "Rolls Royce" of transportation associations.

Join the NTA and don't wait until it's too late.

White Paper: THE MISCLASSIFICATION OF INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS:
THE FIFTY-FOUR BILLION DOLLAR PROBLEM

David Bauer

Spring 2015 Rutgers Journal of Law & Public Policy Vol 12:2

 I. INTRODUCTION
Employers1 are required to categorize their workers as either employees2 or independent contractors.3 On average, most independent contractors are properly classified, but the problem is that many employers misclassify their workers in order to save on labor costs and avoid liability under various employment Acts.
