New Common Core Repeal Bills in Michigan Legislature
|
For anyone interested in getting the Common Core education standards out of Michigan, there are currently bills introduced in both the Michigan Senate and House to do just that. Both Senate Bill 826 and House Bill 5444 are designed to repeal Common Core in its entirety, define the immediate replacement of the standards with "Massachusetts pre-Common Core Standards", confirm the rights of parents to opt-out their students from assessments without consequences, terminate federal control of the Michigan education process, and confirm the responsibility of local districts to define their own standards. You can read the full text of House Bill 5444 or Senate Bill 826 online. You may want to encourage your Senator or Representative to press for hearings on these bills if this issue is important to you.
