Dear Fellow Saginaw GOP Republicans,

Thank you to all that participated in their County Conventions and are now State Convention delegates. Our State Convention should prove to be very exciting, especially the Friday night caucuses where our National delegates will be chosen. Good luck to all those who are running for those highly sought after seats. The Republican National Convention will take place at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland Ohio on July 18-21, 2016.

We will also be voting on the election of our National Committee Woman and Committee Man at the State Convention. The State Convention will be held at the Lansing Center on April 8th & 9th, 2016.

Have a blessed Easter & Happy Spring!!

Applying for National Convention At-Large Delegates
If you have ever wondered how Michigan's national at-large delegates are chosen, here you go.  The Michigan Republican Party's Rule 11 governs the selection, via the the Credentials Committee. The Credentials Committee is comprised of the State Party Chair (Ronna Romney), the Budget Committee Chair, the Policy Committee Chair, the National Committeeman (Dave Agema), the National Committeewoman (Kathy Berden), the State Party General Counsel (Eric Doster), and the State Party Co-Chair (Jeff Sakwa).  They select 14 delegates at-large to attend the National Convention.

If you would like to place your name into the selection process to be a Delegate At-Large, you need to submit your name to the Credentials Committee.  You should send a letter with the following information to:
Michigan Republican Party Credentials Committee
520 Seymour Av
Lansing  MI  48933

"Pursuant to Rule 11 of the State Party Rules to Select Delegates and Alternates to the 2016 National Convention, I am submitting my name to be considered to be a Delegate At-Large. Thank you for your consideration."
Your Name,
Mailing Address,
Phone Number,
Email Address.

If selected, you will have to mail back or hand deliver your Presidential Preference Form to the state party Credentials Committee before 6:00pm, Friday, April 8th.

The full text of Rule 11 is at http://www.migop.org/assets/files/Rules_for_the_Selection_of_Delegates_and_Alternates.pdf.  This document also includes the Presidential Preference Form.  The State Party Chair has stated on several occasions that she is on the side of the grassroots. If none of the grassroots apply to be delegates at-large, the party will not have the opportunity to appoint one, and will appoint the same politicians and donors as usual. If the party does receive our applications but does not select grassroots delegates, we will know where the state party stands.

Michigan Board of Education Rule Will Allow Children to Self-Select Gender
Michigan's State Board of Education has drafted a guidance that would recommend the state's schools allow all students, regardless of parental or doctoral input, to choose their gender, name, pronouns, locker rooms, and bathrooms.  The new guidance, spearheaded by Board President John C. Austin, informs Michigan public schools that only the students themselves, not their parents or doctors, can determine what their individual gender identities are.

"The responsibility for determining a student's gender identity rests with the student. Outside confirmation from medical or mental health professionals, or documentation of legal changes, is not needed," the guidance states.  Notably, the guidance makes no mention of a student's age affecting whether or not they can pick a gender without their parent or doctor.  In fact, the guidance appears to intentionally cut parents out of the process.

The Board quietly issued the statement and guidance on February 23rd, without a press release.  If you believe that parents should decide what names their children use at school, and how they are treated by the school system, you still have an opportunity to comment. The public has until April 11th to comment on the proposed guidance, according to the Department of Education website. The Board will finalize the guidance at a meeting on May 10th.  Full text of the proposed guidance is at:
