News & Events
Dear Fellow Saginaw GOP Republicans,

Does everyone have their pre-primary seat belts fastened? The next two weeks before the March 8th primary should prove to be very exciting with the upcoming debate in Detroit, and the statewide appearances of the presidential candidates attending events. Please make plans to attend the SCRP Lincoln Day Gala on March 5th at the Birch Run Expo, beginning at 6:00pm. (see details below) There will be great food, entertainment, and a chance for you to get up close and personal with your elected representatives. Keynote Speaker will be our own Congressman John Moolenaar. Senator Ken Horn, Representative Tim Kelly, and Representative Gary Glenn are also confirmed speakers. If one of the Presidential campaigns I'm working with is able to confirm, I will get that information out to you ASAP. Also, check out the Shiawassee County Lincoln Day details below with their special Guest Speaker Frank Luntz. Mary Nordbeck and the Shiawassee County Event Committee has been working very hard on that event as well.

Also, I want to send out a special heart-felt thank you for your patience as I dealt with some important and stressful family issues. I am very lucky to have a Senator, Representative, Executive Committee, and dear friends that were so extremely supportive of me, that I was able to return to my duties as Chair. So let's knock this campaign season out-of-the-park!  Please consider attending one of our county meetings that  are on the second Thursday of each month at the Thomas Township Safety Building, 8215 Shields Dr, Saginaw, at 7:00pm. If you are planning to run as a candidate this year, you are more than welcome to stop by and tell us about yourself.

Thanks for your support,
Amy Carl,
your Chair

Repeal & Replace Common Core Legislation
If you are interested in removing and repealing Common Core standards as assessments in Michigan, you may also be interested in attending an upcoming press conference by Representative Gary Glenn.  The event will be held February 24th at 12:00noon at Central United Methodist Church, 215 N. Capitol Avenue, Lansing.

  • During the press conference, Representative Glenn will outline a group of bills designed to repeal the  Common Core standards and assessments in Michigan. The new legislation is written to require the use of evidence based, best practice standards and assessments while respecting and encouraging local school district leadership in academic educational practices. The legislation requires all changes to standards and assessments be approved by the Michigan Legislature, to ensure a more transparent process.  The legislation being proposed also confirms a parental right to Opt-Out without consequences, confirms responsibilities of local school districts and allows defining of their own standards,  clarifies that local districts not using state standards will not suffer financial repercussions, and will not permit the collection of data about student's values, attitudes, beliefs and personality traits.

  • For more information, you should check out the STOP Common Core in Michigan Website.
