News & Events
Dear Fellow Saginaw GOP Republicans,

At last month's meeting, the Saginaw County Republican Executive Committee received two nominations to fill a vacancy on the committee.  We will be voting to fill the vacancy at our next meeting between Jim Graham, a former Saginaw County Commissioner, and Jim Lisee, a founding member of the Great Lakes Bay Speaker Forum.  Our next meeting is Tuesday, May 12th, 7:00pm, at the Thomas Township Public Safety Building, 8215 Shields Dr., Saginaw.

Sincerely,
Amy Carl, Chair

Yard Signs Are In!

Last week, yard signs were available in several locations in Saginaw, Genesee, and Tuscola counties.  If you did not get a sign and still want one, please e-mail the Coalition Against Higher Taxes and Special Interest Deals to request one.

Republican Principles
Sometimes we may need a reminder of what it means to be a Republican.  Maybe you want to tell a friend.  Maybe you need to remind one of your elected representatives who has strayed from principles.  For help, you can download and read the entire current Republican Party Platform.  For a short refresher, the Michigan Republican Party offers these Principles:

I'm a Republican because...

  • I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person's dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.
  • I BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.
  • I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.
  • I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.
  • I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations, and that the best government is that which governs least.
  • I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.
  • I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.
  • I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.
  • FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.
Mid Michigan Citizens for Liberty
Our friends in Clinton County creating a group known as the Mid Michigan Citizens for Liberty with the goal of getting more people involved politically and to have people run for precinct delegates in 2017 to impact the Michigan Republican Party at the county, district, and state levels to make it more truly follow Republican Party principles.

The group will encompass all 14 counties in the 4th Congressional District, which includes much of Saginaw County. The intent is to identify and recruit not only precinct delegates but to find honorable individuals that will consider running for office at all levels of government.  They are still in the planning stages at this point but if anyone would like to become involved in the discussion, please
e-mail Steve Willis.

Clinton and Ingham County Republican Parties to Host Jeb Bush as Speaker
The Clinton County Republican Party and Ingham County Republican Party will be holding their joint Lincoln Day Dinner on Thursday, May 28th.  The Keynote Speaker will be former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.  More details on the time and location of the event will be forthcoming, but you can save the date now!

Governor Bush was elected in 1998 and in 2001, becoming the first Republican to win reelection in Florida's history. Governor Bush presided over balanced budgets, record job growth and more than $19 billion in tax relief for Floridians. He is also well known for his landmark reforms of education and Medicaid and reduction of state government.

Additional information will be available from Clinton County Republican Party Vice Chair Jenell Leonard

The Republican mission seeks to maintain a strong defense, encourage individual achievement and liberty through the free enterprise system, and strengthen families.  If you would like to help us move the area and the country towards these goals, please consider donating to the Saginaw County Republican Committee.  Every donation, no matter how large or small, will help ensure that we can find and elect people to work for those goals.  You can do so by mail to PO BOX 6653, Saginaw, MI  48608 or on the web at newsletter@saginawcountygop.org.

Sincerely,
Amy Carl, Chair, Saginaw County Republican Party
