Get Ready to Run for Office!
Ready to Run Michigan is training to help women get ready to run for office or get more involved in public life - from the school board to city council to the state house, and beyond.  If you would like to become more involved in an effective manner, please attend.  And if you know women who should consider running for elected office, invite them to attend Ready to Run Michigan 2015.

The training will be held on April 18th at Saginaw Valley State University. This one-day program intends to demystify the process of running for office, encourage more women to launch their own campaigns, build networks with other current and future political leaders, work on a campaign, get appointed to office, or learn more about the political system.

Ready to Run Michigan is a nonpartisan campaign training program designed to empower women to participate more fully in government and specifically to encourage women to run for elected and appointed office.  You can learn more about the training session and about Ready to Run Michigan  at their website.

Town Hall Meeting on Michigan Sales Tax Increase
In May, Michigan voters will see a Constitutional Amendment on the ballot.  The amendment is part of a Michigan Legislature proposal that would raise the sales tax and change how money is spent.  The Saginaw County Republican Party has recommended a NO vote on the amendment.

Some of the money is intended to help fix the state's roads.  But bcause some of the money is intended for other purposes, there is a lot of controversy about whether this is the best idea. On Wednesday, March 18th, TV5 will partner with WSGW and SVSU to host a town hall style meeting on the proposal.  Come and learn more and have a chance to add your voice to the discussions, as Sam Merrill and Art Lewis host the debate featuring people from all sides.

The event will be held at Saginaw Valley's Malcolm Field Theatre, beginning at 7:00pm and is free to attend.  You can find the theatre on the campus map page.  It will also will air live on television station, MY-5, and  will stream live on wnem.com.

Common Core State Standards Informational Discussion
During 2015, the Saginaw County Republican Women's Club will be sponsoring a monthly "Informational Common Core State Standards  Open House" at the home of Sandra Kahn, 4520 Midland Road, Saginaw.  The meetings will begin at 7:00pm. These meetings will be held regularly on the third Tuesday of each month: the next meeting will be March 19th.

As of the 2014 school year, Common Core State Standards were mandated for all Michigan Public Schools (and participating Private Schools).  Unfortunately, the general public has received sparse information about this significant change in Michigan Education.  These open houses are intended to provide CCSS information, share opinions and experiences and to explore legislative options as they relate to "who controls Education in Michigan".  Parents, grandparents, teachers and school board members are especially invited!  In spite of our Club name, this issue is totally non-parisan and gender neutral.

No reservation needed - just stop in and bring a friend.  Contact Sandra Kahn for more information.

Dr. Ben Carson to Speak at Alma College
Dr. Ben Carson will be addressing the campus and community on April 1st at the Remick Heritage Center, Presbyterian Hall, Alma College.  The event is from 8:00-10:00pm and tickets are limited.

Dr. Benjamin Carson is emeritus professor of neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he directed pediatric neurosurgery for 29 years.  Dr. Carson is author of several books on leadership and will present "Take the Risk: A Rational Approach to Taking Risks."

Tickets are $20 each by calling the Box Office at 989-463-7304.  They go on sale February 1st.  For more information, contact Mike Sheldon
