News & Events
Dear Friends,

An important reminder for all the precinct delegates: the next Saginaw County Republican Convention is scheduled for February 7, 2013.  At this convention, we will be electing delegates to the February 23, 2013 State Republican Convention.  If you are interested in being nominated for the State Convention, to be held on February 22-23, please email me at saginawgop@yahoo.com no later than Monday, February 4th. We would like to compile a list of potential delegates prior to the county convention. If you are unable to attend the county convention you are still eligible to be nominated for the state convention so please let me know regardless. Hope to see you all February 7, 2013 at the Thomas Township Public Safety Building, 8215 Shields Drive, for our convention!

Freedom to Work Panel Discussion
MI Freedom To Work
The Troy-Clawson Republican Forum is sponsoring a panel discussion on the topic "Freedom to Work: Separating Fact From Fiction." The forum will be help on  Thursday, January 31st at 7:00pm. The location is the Troy Community Center, Room 305,

3179 Livernois Rd, Troy.

Doors open at 7:00pm, and the meeting will begin at 7:30pm.  (Enter through the doors facing Livernois Rd.)  The following speakers are confirmed:

  • State Senator Patrick Colbeck, who championed this in the state Senate,
  • State Representative Mike Shirkey, who did the same in the state House,
  • Jack Hoogendyk, Director of Madison Project of Michigan and member of MI Freedom to Work Coalition
  • Terry Bowman, 15 yr. union member at Ford, and President and founder of Union Conservatives.

Primarily, they will address the legislative and practical facts about this recent law (as opposed to some of the dis-information being thrown about), and the audience will be able to ask questions. Please feel free to invite people you know who may be confused about this issue and are looking for factual information.

As grassroots activists, we must stay engaged and informed. Consistent participation is key to affecting more of the conservative change we'd like to see.  The event is free to attend.  If you wish to attend, please RSVP here.

Election Thoughts
Michigan Republican Party

Some thoughts from Dave Agema, RNC Committeeman, on what we need to work on during the next two years.

"There have been several articles written as to why the GOP lost the election. The reasons are plentiful but a one of the most glaring failures of the 2012 campaign, was our failure to match or counter the Obama grassroots campaign in truly personal contacts. Phone calls to strangers will never take the place of grassroots activists and precinct delegates that know the people in their neighborhoods, churches and communities. And when the demographics are broken down, we can see where we have work to do.

Asian Voters- 73% voted for Obama

Jewish Voters- 60% voted for Obama

Black Evangelicals Voters- 90% voted for Obama

Hispanics Christian Voters- 75% voted for Obama

18-29 Youth Voters- 60% voted for Obama

We must tell the truth better than the Democrats tell the lies about Capitalism vs. Socialism. And the following set of statistics show that conservatism is and will continue to be on the right side of history.  I'm sure many who have just had their taxes increased and those who will soon suffer the effects of oppressive new gun control policies will become disenchanted some towards the Democrat party, but it's our job to make sure these truths get out."

The Republican mission seeks to maintain a strong defense, encourage individual achievement and liberty through the free enterprise system, and strengthen families.  If you would like to help us move the area and the country towards these goals, please consider donating to the Saginaw County Republican Committee.  Every donation, no matter how large or small, will help ensure that we can find and elect people to work for those goals.  You can do so by mail to PO BOX 6653, Saginaw, MI  48608 or on the web at www.saginawcountygop.com.

Sincerely,
Brian Frey, Chair, Saginaw County Republican Party
