No 8:30am Service This Sunday
May 31, 2015 -ONE SERVICE at 3:30pm

Just a reminder that there will be ONE worship service this Sunday, May 31. This will allow our entire congregation to be together for Unity Sunday as we celebrate the unity God is bringing forth among us.

Unity Sunday, This Sunday at 3:30pm

Followed by Dinner!

We'll join together for ONE worship service this Sunday, May 31, at 3:30pm, followed by dinner together. Our combined worship service on Unity Sunday will feature expanded prayer and scripture readings, a short teaching and testimonies on the theme of unity, praise and worship, Holy Communion, and closing words from a special guest. There will be Sunday School as usual for Kindergarten through 8th grade. Students in 9th-12th grade will be in the sanctuary for the worship service.

Following the service, we will have a shared dinner, and enjoy a time of fellowship and fun. We have decided to forgo any formal program in favor of enjoying one another's company. Grilled chicken will be provided by the church and  everyone is asked to bring either a side dish or a dessert to share. (Please bring your food in a clearly labeled dish.) Weather permitting, we hope to be able to be outside as much as possible, so you are encouraged to bring folding chairs or a picnic blanket. Lawn games are welcome, too! Regardless of the weather, seating will be available in the Fellowship Hall. Dinner will begin at about 5:30pm, and we expect to end the evening around 7:00pm.

Newcomer's Dinner
Saturday, June 6, 5:30pm

If you're new, or even fairly new, to Church of the Apostles, we'd love an opportunity to get to know you better and for you to know us. Please join us at our next Newcomer's Dinner, scheduled for Saturday, June 6, at the home of Gary and Terry French in Clifton. It's a casual evening of conversation, fellowship, and delicious food. Several of our church leaders will be there and it's a great opportunity to ask questions about the church and get to know us better. If you've been at Apostles a while but know of a newcomer to the church, feel free to invite them to the dinner and come with them! RSVP and get directions by contacting [email protected] by the Friday night before the dinner. (If no one RSVPs, the dinner will be cancelled.) Children are welcome. We hope to see you soon!
Into the Light Worship
On Summer Hiatus

Into the Light, our service of praise and healing, will e on summer hiatus for June, July, and August. We plan to resume in September, and look forward to gathering together for prayer, praise, and encouraging testimonies.
Men's Breakfast and Bible Study

Men's breakfast
You're invited to join in for a morning of Bible study, breakfast, and fellowship as we meet together at the IHOP restaurant on the corner of Blake Lane and Rt. 29 in Fairfax City. Training: Protecting God's Children
Attention Ministry Leaders and Volunteers

Let the Children Come to Me 3
In order to safeguard the children in our care and protect them from abuse, extensive training is provided for those working with children and youth following the newest guidelines and policies required by the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic. All staff, Vestry members, ministry leaders, TPM prayer ministers, Sunday School teachers, Youth Ministry volunteers, and all others involved in Children and Youth Ministry who are age 16 and older are required to take this training at least every two years. Ministry Leaders that have volunteers who interact with children and youth as part of their ministry should ensure that the volunteers are up-to-date with their training. (You may do so by contacting Pam Marsh.) Also, we welcome all members of the congregation to attend the training, as we have a moral obligation as a church to protect God's children.

The next training date is set for Saturday, June 13, 9:00am-1:00pm, at the church office. To register for the class, please email Pam Marsh or call the church office at 703-591-1974. If you have questions about the training itself, please contact Kristin Colligan, Children's Ministry Director.

You can read Bishop John Guernsey's letter commending the training as well as the Protection of Children Policy for the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic on the DOMA website.

Home Page - The Sunday School Home Page includes links to YouTube videos, pictures, mazes, and other activities. It's a fun way to reinforce the lessons learned in the previous week's Sunday School class. You can download a copy of the Home Page from last Sunday here. We hope you find the Home Page useful. Journey of Faith Booklets

Beth Acanfora has interviewed many members of our congregation to help us better know one another and our life stories, and we have shared these interviews in the Apostles News. These articles have helped us see how God has moved in small ways and in mighty ways in the lives of the people that make up Church of the Apostles. These stories have been compiled into a booklet, with permission of the persons being interviewed, and the Journey of Faith booklet is available on our church website. You may also purchase a bound copy of the booklet for $10, with the proceeds going to our Destined for Joy campaign. Booklets may be picked up at the Destined for Joy campaign table after Sunday services or you may contact [email protected].
