You probably know that smoke alarms save lives. But did you know that having a working smoke alarm cuts your chances of dying in a fire in half? The Allen Fire Department is spreading the word during Fire Prevention Week, which begins on Monday. They're urging residents to install smoke alarms in every bedroom with the reminder to "Hear the Beep Where you Sleep."

Visit the National Fire Protection Association's Smoke Alarm safety site to learn more about proper smoke alarm installation. You can also take the 2015 Fire Prevention Week Quiz to test your fire safety knowledge. To learn more about protecting your home and family from fires, visit AllenFire.org.
System Outage Will Impact City Phones, Email Accounts
The City of Allen will conduct system-wide maintenance on Sunday, Oct. 4 which will impact phones, email capability and internet connectivity. All department phone lines will be down and there will be no incoming or outgoing email capability for several hours.
Emergency 911 phone service will not be affected. Several after-hours extensions will also remain active, including the Allen Police Department main line, Non-Emergency Dispatch line and 24 Hour Water/Sewer Emergency line.

The maintenance operation will begin at 4 a.m. in an effort to minimize the impact to our facilities that are open on Sunday. If service disruptions should occur, updates will be provided on CityofAllen.org.
Allen is a City to Celebrate!
Each year we reflect on the accomplishments and achievements that make Allen a great place to call home. In 2014-2015, our city was recognized nationally for its amenities for young families, healthy housing market and low crime rate. But that's not all we have to celebrate!

Check out our interactive Year in Review webpage to read about the milestones, growth and service that helped shape our community in the past fiscal year. Then watch the video, A City to Celebrate, to relive the year's most exciting moments and share with your friends and neighbors!
