The Cottonwood Creek Hike & Bike Trail reached an important milestone this week. The bridge that will span Cottonwood Creek (located between US 75 and Andrews Parkway) was hoisted into place on Wednesday. Allen City Television captured the action from an unexpected view: the top of the crane's arm! You can watch the time lapse footage on ACTV's YouTube page.

Now that the bridge structure is in place, Allen's Parks & Recreation Department will focus on completing the trail and installing the bridge's public art components. The trail is expected to open later this fall. Learn more about Allen's parks and trail projects.
Join the Conversation: Help Guide Allen's Capital Improvement Program
Allen is launching its next Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and your input is needed! Through this process, residents will help identify and prioritize immediate infrastructure and facility needs for the Allen community. These recommendations will be presented to Allen City Council for a future bond election. All Allen residents are eligible to serve on subcommittees, which include finance, public facilities, parks and recreation, streets and drainage, and public safety. Former Allen Mayor Joe Farmer will help guide the CIP process as chair.

Final meeting times will be announced next week. To help plan for attendance and ensure you receive information on upcoming meetings, please complete this form. You can learn more at CityOfAllen.org/AllenBond2016.
Firefighters Raise Awareness, Support for Muscular Dystrophy Patients
Brodie Falcone was three years old when his mom noticed he had difficulty navigating the jump house at a friend's birthday party. She scheduled a doctor's appointment and was stunned to learn Brodie had muscular dystrophy. The disease attacks the body's muscles, causing progressive weakness; some patients eventually lose the ability to walk.

Now eleven, Brodie has found support in his treatment from the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The non-profit helps cover doctor's visits, provides wheelchairs and offers support groups. It also funds cutting-edge research to help slow and (eventually) cure this disease. Firefighters have partnered with MDA since 1954, raising awareness and support through Fill the Boot fundraisers and other events. Allen Fire Department will join this effort on September 24-26. Firefighters will collect donations at intersections throughout Allen, with every penny going to MDA. You can read more about the Falcone's story at CityofAllen.org/NewsCenter.
