Fill the bus with school supplies and help AISD students in need! From Aug. 3-9, Allen Community Outreach will be collecting donated school supplies at various locations around Allen. ACO is asking for donations of new backpacks and lunch boxes, along with school basics such as pens, pencils, notebooks and glue sticks. View the full list of requested supplies.

In addition to daily drop-off locations, donations will be collected all week at Allen Community Outreach (801 E. Main Street), Allen-Fairview Chamber of Commerce (210 W. McDermott Drive) and Allen Premium Outlets (820 Stacy Road). Find a drop-off location near you and don't forget to support this great program!
The Fountain is Back!

For the first time in over two years, the water feature at Allen City Hall's Civic Plaza is back up and running! The limestone fountain known as Stratum was disabled in May 2013 as north Texas struggled with ongoing drought.

When drought restrictions were lifted in May, maintenance crews began the process of refilling Stratum. They reinstalled a pump and cleared the trenches of leaves and other debris. Today, the fountain spurted back to life - though it will operate at a lower height to avoid excess evaporation and water loss from high winds.

Dotted with benches and beautifully landscaped, the Civic Plaza is a quiet refuge that is always open to the public. Stop by anytime and enjoy this lovely piece of public art!

Make a Difference on a City Board or Commission

There's only one week left to apply for a spot on one of Allen's boards, commissions or committees. These entities advise the City Council on a variety of issues, ranging from animal shelter operations to zoning recommendations. The majority of appointments are for two-year terms with no term limits, although a few have three-year commitments.

All qualified voters with one year of residency in the City of Allen are eligible to apply for positions with any of the council-appointed boards. Qualifications for the Economic Development Board also extend to non-resident applicants who have been employed in a management position for at least one year with a business or company located in Allen.

Interviews are typically held in late August and early September. Appointments are made in September and are effective Oct. 1. See a list of boards and commissions or download an application today. The deadline for submitting an application is August 7, 2015.
