May 29, 2015
With historic flooding in parts of Texas (and more rain in the forecast), this weekend is the perfect time to make sure your family is storm ready. Our Fire Department is sharing tips on tornado safety, lightning safety, weather radios and more at CityofAllen.org/StormReady. The page is packed with life-saving information, including:
  • Where to take shelter during a tornado, whether you're at home, in your car or in a public space.
  • Why you shouldn't depend on outdoor warning sirens to alert you to a tornado.
  • What to do if you think your home was hit by lightning.
  • How to receive emergency information if you're hearing or sight impaired.
  • How to get local alerts on your NOAA weather radio.
During severe weather, the Allen Fire Department works with the weather team at NBC 5/KXAS-TV to provide as much information as possible. Residents can also follow the City of Allen on Facebook and Twitter.
Citywide System Maintenance Scheduled for Sunday, June 7

The City of Allen is preparing for a system-wide upgrade on its phone and network system, and that means we'll need to unplug for a few hours. On Sunday, June 7, all city department phone lines will be down and city staff will be unable to send or receive any email messages. Emergency 911 phone service will not be affected, and several after-house extensions will be rerouted and active.

A number of City facilities will be closed or have limited operations during the upgrade. Others will require manual transactions for sales. To view the complete list, visit CityofAllen.org/UnplugWe appreciate your patience as we complete this important project!

Road Construction Alerts Now Available

Wish you knew about road construction before you got stuck in a backup? We're providing a new way to alert you to potential problem spots, especially along US 75. When crews close an overpass, shut down lanes or reroute traffic, we'll shoot you a brief email with details on the timing and scope of work. Simply visit our Notify Me subscription page, enter your email, and check the box next to "Road Construction Alerts" to start receiving notices.

The alerts will focus on pre-planned construction, so you should still check TXDOT signs for warnings about crashes or other traffic issues. To learn more about the US 75 widening project and other Allen road construction, visit CityofAllen.org/RoadConstruction.
