Say goodbye to Stage 3 water restrictions! Beginning today, Allen residents may water their lawns up to twice per week on their designated watering days. May 1 also marks the beginning of our new Water Conservation and Water Resource Management Plan, approved by City Council in 2014. The plan includes a few key changes, including the following:
  • A water conservation plan will be in place year-round, regardless of drought conditions. The conservation plan allows sprinkler use up to twice per week on designated days. Watering is still prohibited during rain or freeze events and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from April 1 to Oct. 31.
  • The drought plan now has three stages instead of four. The city will launch Stage 3 restrictions only in the most extreme drought conditions.
  • Despite the new stages and new drought plan, your main watering day has not changed! To prevent damage to your landscape, Water Conservation Manager Gail Donaldson recommends watering only once per week unless temperatures are nearing 100 and it's been more than a week since the last rainfall. If we continue to receive significant rainfall, you may not need to water every week!
Though our local lakes are currently full, these conservation practices will help our City weather any future drought conditions and allow for future growth. We appreciate your participation!

May is "Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month"
Keeping your eyes on the road is more important than ever! On Tuesday, Allen ushered in Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month with a city proclamation, urging riders to wear protective equipment and exercise good judgment. Mayor Stephen Terrell also reminded drivers to be vigilant as they share the road to reduce the occurrence of injuries and fatalities.

Drivers can help prevent deadly crashes by using turn signals, checking blind spots and mirrors, and leaving 3-4 seconds of following distance between themselves and motorcycles. Riders should always wear a helmet and other protective gear, obey all traffic laws and ride in the middle of the lane to be more visible to drivers.
