Cast your vote and skip the line! Early voting for the May 9 election kicks off next week. Beginning Monday, Allen voters can cast their ballot in the Community Room at the Allen Municipal Court/Parks and Recreation Administration Building or Lovejoy ISD Administration Building. Dates and times are posted on the Collin County elections website.

You can find information on the general election for city council and proposed charter amendments at CityofAllen.org/ElectionNotices. We've also posted information about the election to revoke $16,685,000 in general obligation bonds initially approved for the Arts Center of North Texas.

Not sure where to go on election day? Collin County's election website will help you find a polling place and explain what to bring with you when you vote.

If you decide to adopt, you'll find everything you need (from collars to pet food to carriers) right in the store.

The adoption fee is $95 and includes microchipping, vaccinations and sterilization. You can browse our current animals on PetFinder. To find out about future adoption events, visit the Allen Animal Shelter Facebook page.
Allen Launches Mercury Thermostat Recycling Program

Need to get rid of an old mercury thermostat? Don't toss it in the trash! Allen's Engineering Department just launched a free disposal program. Simply take your thermostat to City Hall (305 Century Parkway) and drop it off at the front desk, located in the rotunda. Broken thermostats will not be accepted. Thermostats will not be collected through the Household Hazardous Waste pickup service.

Mercury is a heavy metal that can be a threat to human health and the environment. The average wall thermostat contains four grams of mercury, or the equivalent of 800 compact fluorescent lights.
