Allen's Fire Station #2 is getting a big upgrade! A $2.9 million dollar reconstruction will begin this summer, leaving fire personnel and equipment in need of a temporary home. Rather than moving the station out of the neighborhood, City Council members voted on Tuesday to accept an agreement that will establish a temporary base of operations right next door.
Temporary housing and an apparatus shelter will be installed on the lawn of the Exchange Parkway Church of Christ before demolition of Fire Station #2 begins. The City will pay the church $1,750 a month for use of the property. Fire personnel will work out of temporary structures for a year or longer, depending on the construction timeline. The Fire Station #2 reconstruction budget will cover all temporary housing expenses. The fire department expects to make the move late this spring.
