We asked you to "Just Bring It" - and you did! Over 1,300 cars made their way to either the parking lot at Allen City Hall or the Municipal Service Center to drop off recyclables, donations or shredding. The City of Allen and Keep Allen Beautiful want to thank everyone who participated and continue to help keep our community clean. Check out a few of the great stats from the day:
- 50,661 pounds of electronics was collected for recycling including about 20,000 pounds of old TVs. Those items will either be resold or processed into raw materials instead of making their way into a landfill.
- 329 pairs of shoes were collected by The Shoe Bank. These shoes will benefit numerous families in the North Texas region through organizations such as The Family Place, Genesis, Hope's Door, New Beginnings, and Brighter Tomorrows.
- 36 bicycles were collected with about 1/2 of them getting refurbished and given back to the Collin County community. The other half will be fully recycled in terms of their parts, tires, tubes, and metal parts.
The next major cleanup event is the Great American Cleanup held in the Spring. Make sure to follow KAB on Twitter for more great tips and updates.

Over 10,000 Pounds of Pharmaceuticals and Sharps Collected Since 2010 |
 |
In late September, the Allen Police Department, in partnership with Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen, participated in their eleventh drug take back program. At this event, 1,113 pounds of unwanted pharmaceuticals and 241 pounds of sharps were collected. In those brief few hours of collection, our community helped eliminate close to a ton of drugs and other items from being introduced into the water supply and landfill. Since 2010, when the APD began holding these events, the community participation has been outstanding with 10,380 pounds of collection!
The Allen Police Department would like to congratulate our community on the continued participation which is what makes these events so successful for everyone.
