Allen City Television received nine first place government programming awards from the National Association of Telecommunication Advisors and Officers (NATOA). Awards included Overall Excellence in Government Programming for the fifth consecutive year. 

A few other first place award winning videos included: "Texas Stampede Longhorn Cattle Drive" (Event Coverage), "PLAY!" (Children/Young Adults), "Rec X - The EDGE" (Interview/Talk Show), "Community Emergency Response Team" (Public Safety), and "Allen History According to Flula" (Use of Humor). 

NATOA's annual Government Programming Awards recognize excellence in broadcast, cable, multimedia and electronic programming produced by local government agencies across the nation.

National Recreation & Parks Association to Announce Gold Medal Winners
The American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA), in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), selected Allen as a finalist for the second consecutive year for the National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management. The announcement of the Gold Medal recipient will be held on Tuesday, October 14 at the NRPA annual conference. Make sure to stay tuned to AllenParks.org to see the results!

Founded in 1965, the Gold Medal Awards program honors communities in the U.S. that demonstrate excellence in parks and recreation through long-range planning, resource management, volunteerism, environmental stewardship, program development, professional development and agency recognition. It is the most prestigious honor in the park and recreation industry.

Celebrate the Traditions and Heritage of Mexico
The Allen Public Library invites you to enjoy the music and dance traditions of Mexico presented by Mexico 2000 Ballet Folklórico beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 12 in the Civic Auditorium. 

Wearing vibrant costumes, Mexico 2000 Ballet Folklórico will present an authentic folk dance program. The performance is a lively and passionate rendition of Mexican heritage, both past and present. 

Sponsored by Bach to Books and a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts, this program is free. The library is located at 300 N. Allen Dr. Call 214.509.4911 for more information.
