October 5 - 11 is Fire Prevention Week across the nation and the Allen Fire Department has several programs they will be presenting at Allen schools to help spread the word about how working smoke alarms can save lives. From showing the younger children demonstrations of the bunker gear and apparatus to engaging older youth interactively with the state-of-the-art Safety Trailer, AFD Education and Outreach representatives also offer these programs year-round.  Allen's award winning ACTV wants to keep you in the know about your community with its new show, Take 5. Each installment, hosted by ACTV Video Producer Tim Johnston, will focus on five topics from around Allen that will be sure to grab your interest. And there may even be a visit from Allen Mayor Stephen Terrell with the latest updates from Allen City Council.

Local Theater and Local Playwrights Bring Down Home Laughs! |

 Allen's Community Theatre presents the first show of the 2014-15 season, There's No Place Like Homer. When Bob and Sharon Wilson, a typical middle-class couple, decide to take a road trip away from the hustle of big city life, they encounter a cornucopia of colorful mountain characters when their car breaks down in the isolated hamlet of Homer. The original script was written by locals Rusty Harding and Marcus Ridner and is directed by Leigh Wyatt Moore.
Performances will be October 10 - 26 at Allen's Community Theatre, located at 1206 E. Main Street #105, (SW corner of Allen Heights and Main Street). |
