The Allen Police Department in partnership with Texas Health Presbyterian and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration will be at the Lowery Freshman Center, 601 E Main St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday as part of the national Take-Back Initiative to collect and safely dispose of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs, over the counter drugs and vitamins. The service is free and anonymous with no questions asked. The nationwide initiative seeks to prevent increased pill abuse and theft as well as protecting the environment. Medications should never be flushed down drains. Watch this informative video.
 
Allen Animal Shelter Holding Several Adoption Events in the Community
The Allen Animal Shelter will hold its Paws at the Bank adoption event at Bank of the Ozarks (NW corner of Bethany Drive and Watters Road) this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

On Saturday, May 3, the Shelter will be on hand at 1 Cabela's Drive with more adoptable pets at the Cabela's Adoption Event.

Then on Saturday, May 31 will be the Harley Davidson of Dallas in Allen Adoption Event located at 304 South Central Expressway.

Pioneer Social to Kick-Off the Allen Heritage Guild "Gone to Texas" Exhibit
The Allen Heritage Guild invites you to learn more about the founding pioneers of the Allen area at their Pioneer Social on Sunday from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Allen Heritage Center/Depot. This celebration will kick off the opening of their newest exhibit: Gone to Texas. Guild members have researched area early pioneers and put their findings on display. The focus will be the 1857 diary of Mary Susannah Lunsford in which she tells of the family trip from Kentucky to the Allen area. Many maps and pictures will also be on display along with the research. The event is free and refreshments will be served.

It's Almost Time for the Great American Clean-Up - Start Gathering Your Junk Now!
Next Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be two locations in Allen where you can take your items for collection as part of the annual Great American Cleanup™ (GAC). To drop off trash, brush, white metal appliances and cardboard, head to the new location this year just north of Allen Premium Outlets to the intersection of Chelsea Boulevard and Allen Commerce Parkway. The collection site for donation, electronics and metal recycling, and paper shredding opportunities will be in the Allen City Hall parking lot, 305 Century Parkway.

The event is once again hosted by the City of Allen Community Services Department, Keep Allen Beautiful (KAB) and Community Waste Disposal (CWD), and volunteers will be on hand to assist with vehicle unloading.

Allen residents are asked to bring a current City of Allen water utility bill and driver's license in order to take advantage of this great cleanup, reuse and recycling opportunity. This event is for residential customers only. No box trucks or commercial quantities of recycling, electronics or shredding will be accepted.
