For anyone living or working in Allen that wants to learn about the workings of the Allen Fire Department, applications are now being accepted for the Citizens Fire Academy. Taught by firefighters from throughout the department, the weekly classes are designed to teach participants about educational requirements to become a firefighter, emergency operations, fire and life safety training and much more. The Allen Police Department is accepting applications for its Spring Citizens Police Academy. This informative 12-week course provides Allen residents with an opportunity to meet with officers from various units of the police department including K-9, SWAT, Patrol, Criminal Investigations and Crime Scene. Volunteers Needed for Lone Star Conference Basketball Championship
The Allen Parks and Recreation Department is currently recruiting volunteers for the Lone Star Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Championship held March 5 - 8 at Allen Event Center. In addition to the behind-the-scenes view of what goes on at a college basketball championship event, volunteers receive a free game ticket for each session worked, a tournament volunteer t-shirt and complimentary food. Volunteers are needed to help in areas like media/courtside attendants, ushers, greeters, hospitality and locker room/back of house security. Those interested in volunteering can sign up here.
