Allen Parks and Recreation is rolling out the specials this month to help jump start your fitness resolutions this year. Each facility will not only offer discounts on new memberships and membership renewals all month long, there will be numerous free activities, chance drawings, and complimentary refreshments throughout the month. At the annual Boards and Commissions Appreciation Dinner, Allen Mayor Stephen Terrell presented the Mayor's Distinguished Service Awards to Dr. Joe Farmer and Kathy Lintinas. These awards recognize individuals who have served the City of Allen in an elected position or in an appointed board position for at least 10 years and made valuable contributions to the community through volunteer service.  Dr. Farmer's service to the City of Allen spans over 36 years. He was elected to City Council in 1977 and served as Mayor Pro Tem for nine years before being elected as Mayor in 1988. After serving as Mayor for eight years, he has continued his work in our community in numerous capacities including serving as the City of Allen representative on the North Texas Municipal Water District Board of Directors since 1998.  Litinas has served the City for over 15 years with her dedication to further the arts in our community. She began her service with the inception of the Allen Philharmonic Orchestra in 1998 where she still serves as president. She has been involved in the Allen Arts Alliance since its inception, serving as board chair since 2005.
