text to 9 1 1
This week, the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) Regional 911 Program launched a "Text to 911" service for Verizon Wireless customers in Collin County (not including Plano, Garland, Richardson, and Wylie). NCTCOG coordinated development of this interim solution for emergency situations when it is unsafe to call as well as for individuals with hearing or speech impairments. To use the service, Verizon Wireless customers must be within range of a cell tower located in one of the participating Collin County cities.

When using text to 911, it is critical to provide the location information and nature of emergency first. Don't use abbreviations or slang - try to be as clear as possible.

Read the full NCTCOG release for more important information related to text to 911 service.

At CityOfAllen.org, there are several calendars available to find out what is going on around town. If you are interested in our public meetings, parks and recreation events or some of the great programs at the library, visit CityOfAllen.org/calendar to check out what's happening and when. The City of Allen Community Calendar includes events that are open to the general public and hosted by non-commercial, community based organizations whose primary service area is within the city of Allen. If your organization has an event you would like posted, submit this online request form. There is a short approval process, but we encourage community-based non-profit, educational, or governmental organizations to let us know about their key events.

And don't forget, you can sign-up to receive email notification anytime a new event is added to our calendars at CityOfAllen.org/NotifyMe. Please note you will only receive notices for events posted to the calendar or calendars you choose for email notification.
