The start of a new year is an exciting time as we begin final preparations for the 30th Presentation of the Big Sur International Marathon and related events to be held April 24 - 26, 2015.  If you will be participating in one of our April races, we hope your training is going well and that you have finalized your travel plans.

At the recent Running USA Conference in New Orleans, LA, our youth fitness program JUST RUN was awarded Youth Program of the Year.  We are extremely proud of our JUST RUN team for their dedication and hard work that has made this program a success!

Runner Stories Needed

Do you have an interesting story about why you are running this year's Big Sur Marathon (or other distance) event?  If so, we'd like to hear from you.  Please send a short, 1-2 paragraph description to julie@bsim.org before March 1 and include a picture (high resolution, 300 DPI if possible) and the name of your hometown paper or TV station.

2016 Marathon Entry Update

JUST RUN Update
Great Program, Great Leaders!

The marathon's youth fitness program JUST RUN is more committed than ever in its efforts to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles. We are proud of our many leaders who are positively impacting thousands of participants across the country.  This year, 14 states have JUST RUN programs and we are looking forward to adding many more.  Wherever you are located, we would welcome your referrals and your assistance so that we can reach as many children as possible.

JUST RUN is not only gratifying for the kids but for our enthusiastic and committed leaders as well.  "Thank you so much for introducing this program to our school. I have never felt so fulfilled with anything I have done for kids ever before."

(Mary P. 3rd grade teacher, Bishop School)

DOLE Nutrition News
Need fuel? Grab a banana! Research from the Dole Nutrition Institute found bananas were effective in fueling endurance athletes when eaten before and during exercise. Plus, they're an affordable alternative to sports drinks and are a natural source of sugar and energy. One medium banana packs about 27 g carbohydrate and 105 calories and is a good source of potassium and vitamin B6 - the perfect combination to power you through the Big Sur Marathon!
