Running on the Ragged Edge of the Western World

Greetings!
We welcome all runners and walkers along with their friends and families to our lineup of events to be held April 25 -27th! This is the first of several communications you'll be receiving from us prior to race weekend.

We are both proud and humbled that so many wish to participate in our full marathon as evidenced by last July's 59-minute sell-out. In addition to the open marathon, we welcome those participating in the Runner's World Challenge and the Boston 2 Big Sur Challenge.

Although the Marathon, 21-Miler, and 10.6-Miler are sold out, there are still available slots in the Marathon Relay, 9-Miler and 5K.  If you know someone who'd like to take part in one of these events, be sure to let them know.

Best of luck in your training and we'll be back in touch soon!

RACE WEEKEND EXPO CLINICS
On Saturday, April 26, we will be offering an all-day series of FREE race clinics and panels in the Steinbeck Forum (3rd Floor) of the Monterey Conference Center, site of the Health & Fitness Expo.  Speakers include Jeff Galloway, Bart Yasso, the editors of Runner's World Magazine, a panel of experts for a Q & A session, a women's panel and a Boston 2 Big Sur "meet and greet" with Dean Karnazes. More information on times and topics will be available online and in your Race Weekend Instructions by March 31.

RELAY TEAM CAPTAINS:  IS YOUR TEAM READY?
This serves as a reminder that relay team members need to join their relay team online no later than April 18.  They can register themselves or the team captain can do it for them.  If the team captain plans to run on the team, he/she needs to join as a member as well (being captain does not automatically make one a member).  If a captain needs a to replace a team member, change a team name, category or password, email sally@bsim.org with the details.

HOTEL BOOKINGS
If you haven't yet made your hotel reservations, now's the time to do so.  We have several local hotels listed on the Travel Page (under "Race Weekend") on our website that still have availability.  For a complete listing of lodging and booking opportunities on the Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur you can search by price, city and amenities, click HERE.  If you are no longer able to travel to the race, please cancel your reservation immediately so that openings will be available for other participants and you won't get charged unnecessarily.

FINAL INSTRUCTIONS PREPARED AT THE END OF MARCH
On March 31, 2014 we will be emailing Race Weekend Instructions to all registered participants, as well as posting them online at www.bsim.org. They contain detailed information on the Expo and packet pick-up, bus departure times and locations for all events, the schedule of race weekend activities, and course and venue maps.  Be sure to read these directions carefully for a better race weekend.
