Neal Dempsey & the Dempsey Foundation
Neal Dempsey is not only an individual sponsor of the Big Sur International Marathon, he is nearly a "grizzled vet," having run 26 of the 27 Big Sur Marathons. Like the thousands of runners that attend the race each year from all over the world, Neal came to this race because the Pacific Coast Highway and the edge of the Western World is a breathtaking scene. As Neal fell in love with the beauty of Big Sur, he started spending more time in the area. That's when he realized there was more to this community than meets the eye. There were people in need who were often overlooked. For Neal, it was time to give back.
"There's a lot of beauty and wealth in Big Sur," Neal said. "But there are a lot of good, hard-working people here who aren't as fortunate and need our support."

Neal and his charitable organization, the Dempsey Foundation, became a donor to the race and thereby, the many local charities it supports. In addition to his ongoing support of the Big Sur Marathon's JUST RUN youth fitness program, his sponsorship provides grant funding to a variety of local groups in Monterey County, including scout troops, youth sports programs, volunteer fire brigades and the local Habitat for Humanity just to name a few.
"It's great to come here once a year and enjoy the physical beauty Big Sur has to offer," Neal continued. "But while you're here, take a look around at all the great people in this community who support us every day by serving us food, cleaning our rooms and keeping us safe. This community is as diverse as it is hospitable. My greatest joy is to give back to this community and have it embodied in a race I love."

Our Partner Events | Update
Big Sur Marathon or Half Marathon Partner Events are running or walking events promoted by the BSIM as interesting, challenging, fun, scenic and well administered that can potentially be participated in as training races for a Big Sur International Marathon event in April or the Half Marathon in November. Current partners are the Portland Marathon and Half Marathon, Salinas Valley Half Marathon, Run in the Name of Love, Rio Grill's Resolution Run and San Jose 408K "Race to the Row."The 23rd presentation of Rio Grill's Resolution Run was held on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, and welcomed a record crowd of runners and walkers. Offering both a 5K and 10K, the Rio Run is held on trails and the streets of Carmel-by-the-Sea and offers stunning ocean views. Rio welcomed a new beneficiary this year, the Natividad Medical Foundation's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Our newest partner event is the San Jose 408K "Race to the Row." Join thousands from the 408 (area code) and run the 2nd edition on Sunday, March 10, 2013. The 408K is an 8K road race that goes from the HP Pavilion to Santana Row, benefiting the Pat Tillman Foundation's Military Scholars program. You don't have to be from the 408 to participate.
