Welcome to the June edition of the AALF newsletter!

Once again we're pleased to bring you this edition of the Anytime Anywhere Learning Report.

This month, in an article from Susan Einhorn, AALF Executive Director, we announce an exciting new partnership for AALF. In his editorial, AALF President Bruce Dixon further elaborates on this partnership and other recent AALF partnerships as well as describing some new AALF projects. In her regular editorial, Susan questions the novelty of BYOD programs. In addition, we asked a number of our favorite educators and contributors, including Will Richardson and Maria Langworthy, to respond to this issue's Conversation Starter from the late David Foster Wallace. Their responses were varied and intriguing. We also have an article by Yarmouth (ME) High School Technology Integrator Alice Barr who shares details of Yarmouth's student-run tech committee. In addition, Karen Ward shares an update on AALF's support services.

As always, you'll find some of our regular features: Have Your Say, and Share Your Expertise.

Click on the link at the end of each article to read it in its entirety on our website. Please share your thoughts or add your stories to any of these articles. We would love to hear from you!

Enjoy!

UPDATE! AALF EMBARKING ON NEW PARTNERSHIP

linked educators As you will read in more detail in Bruce's blog, these are exciting times for AALF! We are embarking on a new partnership with Modern Learner Media, which means AALF members will soon be receiving a new weekly newsletter, Educating Modern Learners (EML).  The team behind EML, Will Richardson and Bruce Dixon, along with outstanding editor Audrey Watters, provide articulate, thought-provoking analyses of the best, most transformative ideas for education - ideas that will challenge your thinking about learning and the role of school for today's Anytime Anywhere Learner. We are very pleased to be able to provide you with this newsletter and know you'll find it a great addition to your list of 'must-reads'.

As part of this shift, and in the interest of reducing inbox newsletter overload, we will no longer be publishing the Anytime Anywhere Learning Report. But don't worry! Our team will still be hard at work, expanding our website and bringing you up-to-date articles, blogs, research, information, news - all the resources you've come to expect from AALF. As well, from time to time, news from AALF will appear in EML, so we'll continue to keep in touch. As we focus on designing and delivering outstanding support services and developing new resources, AALF will remain your go-to organization for 1:1 and anytime anywhere learning during this exciting time for education.

Warm regards,

Susan

BYOD THE "NEXT BIG THING"? I DON'T THINK SO!

Susan Picture Susan Einhorn, Executive Director of the Anytime Anywhere Learning Foundation
questions the "novelty" of Bring Your Own Device programs, and asks whether this movement is distracting educators from the larger issues at hand.

CONVERSATION STARTING POINTS

This month, we asked a number of educational experts the following question:
How can you relate the following parable to learning and the role of school and educators in our digital world?

The parable and this issue's Conversation Starting Point is an excerpt from a commencement speech delivered by the late author David Foster Wallace  to Kenyon College in 2005. To read the speech in its entirety, please click here.

"There are these two young fish swimming along and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says "Morning, boys. How's the water?" And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes "What the hell is water?"

Click here to read the intriguing responses from Will Richardson, Maria Langworthy, and Susan Einhorn.

We'd also love to hear what you think! Join the conversation and let us know!
