Ken Burns Is Coming, Ken Burns Is Coming!

by Carl R. DeMilia, Director

This is the official kick off to "Our New Milford, an American Town" which is a month-long program focused on the history of New Milford and will be held May 1-24, 2013. A variety of speakers and program topics are scheduled and will be open to everyone. Many of the programs are designed for people of all ages and the majority of them will be held here at the library.

The FRIENDS of the Library, with other supporters, are sponsoring the appearance of our special guest speaker KEN BURNS on May 17, 2013 at 7:00 PM at the New Milford High School auditorium.

Ken Burns is best known for his award winning documentaries on PBS which include "The Civil War", "Baseball", "Jazz", "The National Parks", "The War", "The Dust Bowl" and "Mark Twain". Mr. Burns is an accomplished story teller who recounts the history of this country and its people in a very personal manner.

Mr. Burns will present "Sharing the American Experience" in which he will look at the timeless lessons of history and the enduring greatness and importance of the United States in the course of human events.

Current details concerning all of the programming, including dates, times, locations, speakers and topics will soon be available on the library's website: www.newmilfordlibrary.com

Please continue to check the library's website for updated information as the programs get closer for registration dates and procedures.

The other service we offer is downloadable ebooks, also through our website. It is now available on Nooks and Sony Readers, as well as the Kindle Fire, iPad, iPhone, any pc, and android devices.

Tax Time
by Margaret Kistinger, Reference and Information Services Librarian

It's that time of year again! As tax season approaches patrons will be asking for forms and tax related information such as instruction booklets. The following bulletin was sent from the IRS to NMPL Reference:

"The IRS is aware of the great interest in the 2012 tax forms, instructions and publications, and therefore, is shipping tax products as they become available. Please note that instruction booklets may arrive weeks after tax forms this year. The IRS website at www.IRS.gov is the most up-to-date source for federal tax products and information.

Forms will appear on the website before printed copies are available. Patrons wishing to print copies from the IRS website may do so from our computer stations for 15 cents a page. Full Story
