NEW YORK

"Coping is not easy, but we're alive!"

FAR ROCKAWAY

It is a bit past 10 o'clock on this Saturday Morning (November 10) in the unheated pastor's office of First Presbyterian Church of Far Rockaway. A low chorus of "Amen" and a smattering of nodding heads punctuate the warming sentiment expressed by Ruling Elder Claudette Bravo Ho-Sang.

She is addressing Helen Robinson's National Response Team from Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA), making their first of three planned stops in the hard-hit New York City borough of Queens.

They are the second PDA team on the ground here since Hurricane Sandy and the first since a nor'easter blew through November 7th, dumping upwards of four inches of snow atop the remnants of Sandy's wrath.

A Strategy for Ministry

Hispanic/Latino-a Presbyterians Gather to Discuss Action Plans, Measurable Goals

Tony Aja

Ruben Armendariz, consultant for church development in Mission Presbytery and considered by many the expert on Hispanic ministries in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), speaks proudly of "the right heritage that Hispanics/Latinos bring from their cultural background and life."

How will the PC(USA) benefit from this richness?

Hispanic Presbyterians from across the United States and Puerto Rico met October 30-November 2 to discuss the future of this ministry. The gathering was sponsored by the National Presbyterian Hispanic/Latino Caucus and the offices of Hispanic/Latino-a Congregational Support and Resources and Relationships with Hispanic/Latino Constituencies.

February 6-9, 2013

Orlando, Florida

Doubletree Hotel

Come and Let Us Play at the 2013 Annual Event in Orlando! Psalm 148:12-13 reads, "Young men and women alike, old and young together! Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his glory is above earth and heaven. "As God's redeemed creation in Christ, we believe that God has gifted us with the ability to both work and play. We know that Christ came that we might have abundant life; therefore, let us celebrate the freedom to love God and one another in response to God's love for us. We hope you plan to join us for the 2013 Annual Event, where we'll experience the spirit of God through play!

McCormick Theological Seminary

Certificate in Environmental Leadership and Ministry

Original Artwork by Shawna BowmanThe timely certificate in Environmental Leadership and Ministry program will be offered again in 2013. This timely program provides clergy and lay leaders alike the opportunity to think deeply and broadly about the growing challenge of environmental ministry in their communities and work. Set in an urban environment and combining the contexts of science, biblical studies, theology and ethics while incorporating the language and practices of the church, participants will come away equipped to serve as a strong resource person and advocate in their own places of ministry.
